Fashion Wrap: Michelle Obama’s Fashion Philosophy, Nicki Minaj’s Amazing Transformation And More

Michelle Obama’s Fashion Philosophy: ‘Be Comfortable’

The First Lady of the United States is renowned for her less-than-designer choices – she specialises in Target and lesser-known American designers rather than big names.

However, her design philosophy is actually very simple: be comfortable, and wear what you love.

She refuses to wear things which “ride up” or “make her feet hurt”.  “I don’t want to waste anxiety on something as limited as clothes… Everything in my closet is something that I love.”

However, she does have one very specific sartorial worry.

Apparently she checks very carefully for skirt lengths, “because if I bend over I’m worrying about that… embarrassing shot.”

Given that she regularly tops polls as the most stylish woman in politics – beating even Mrs Sarkozy, Carla Bruni – we think she has nothing much to worry about.

Nicki Minaj Is Transformed Into A Courtesan By W Magazine

After sitting next to Anna Wintour at the New York Fashion Week shows, Nicki Minaj is attaining some serious fashion cred.

This November’s W features her on the cover and a major editorial – styled as 18th-century courtesans.

The shoot was directed by artist Francesco Vezzoli, and based on very specific images of famous courtesans throughout history.

Madame de Pompadour, the Comtesse du Barry – and Nicki Minaj?  So it seems.

Vezzoli said that he wanted the results to be ‘surreal’, and also ‘as accurate as possible’ – and the finished results do look eerily similar to the original paintings, though Minaj is almost unrecognisable in corsets rather than technicolour wigs.

Last year’s W Art Issue featured a completely naked Kim Kardashian covered in silver paint, which fashion commentators still remember – some with disdain.

This year, however, W is going very high-fashion – the dresses Minaj wears alone are swoon-worthy.

The Versace For H&M Men’s Line: Leopard-Print Sarongs and Bright Pink Suits

Want to update the wardrobe of a man in your life?

Unless he’s supremely confident or very into colour, you may not want to do your Christmas shopping at Versace for H&M.

The women’s pieces are typical Versace – short, tight, studded, supreme rock-chic – but the men’s are edgier and brighter than you’d normally see on any runway.

Case in point – the entire bright pink suit, complete with pink shoes.

Other controversial men’s choices include a zig-zag pattern trouser, a palm-print top and what appears to be a leopard-and-pink sarong.

These are certainly not for shrinking violets, or even for Casual Friday.

However, they would make absolutely amazing wedding and party attire.

Would you wear or buy these pieces?

Newest Fashion Editorial Star: Miss Piggy

She’s been a glamourous icon since the 1970s, and is finally getting the recognition she deserves.

November’s InStyle will feature none other than Miss Piggy, the erstwhile girlfriend of Kermit The Frog, in specially made designer clothes.  Well, she does have a movie to promote.

The custom pieces hailed from the creme de la creme – as is only fitting, of course.

Prabal Gurung, Opening Ceremony, Jason Wu and Brian Atwood were among the contributors showcasing the trends on Miss Piggy, with Gurung telling InStyle that an empire waist ‘really flatters her figure’.

Fashionista.com has now predicted that Miss Piggy will next end up in Vogue.

However, Rescu. is most interested in whether she can convince Kermit to do a shared spread – perhaps in some of Versace for H&M’s menswear.  A frog in a bright pink suit?  Now that’s avant-garde fashion.
