Miranda Kerr, Australia’s most talked about modelling and style export, sat down with our Bahar Etminan, over an intimate afternoon tea at the Langham Hotel Sydney, to launch her new stem-wear collection for Royal Albert.
The stunning model mum to son with Orlando Bloom, Flynn, looked a vision of summer perfection in a purple and yellow Giambattista Valli dress and towering suede heels. Miranda chose to speak exclusively with Rescu. and revealed her plans for the summer holidays back in Australia, her hectic international schedule and what inspires her when she is working on a creative project.
Bahar Etminan: Hi, you’re on Rescu. TV, I’m super excited to bring you my beautiful friend, Miss Miranda Kerr
Miranda Kerr: Nice to see you
Bahar Etminan: Merry Christmas gorgeous
Miranda Kerr: Merry Christmas to you
Bahar Etminan: You look a vision of sunshine today
Miranda Kerr: Oh thank you, I thought I’d get inspired by the beautiful colours on this dress
Bahar Etminan: And today we’re celebrating another feather in your cap, an extension of your partnership with Royal Albert. And you’ve designed stemware; last time we met you were launching the beautiful tea set and china. Which I have all of, every single piece of.
Miranda Kerr: They are so fun to mix and match
Bahar Etminan: They are so fun to mix and match
Miranda Kerr: And I was so detailed oriented when I was like putting it altogether and like the butterfly needs to be exactly here and the peonies need to be like this and I want, you know, the flowers to be growing naturally. The butterfly looks like it’s effortlessly flying.
Bahar Etminan: You know what, it’s so nice you did that. Because strangely, you do notice the little details and they are the little quirks that you put a smile on your face in the morning when you’re doing something as mundane as having your morning cup of tea. And like you look, the bug is there and the butterfly is here, and you thinking, ‘oh that’s nice, that’s for me’
Miranda Kerr: Yeah, it feels like, I wanted it to feel personal and each of, there are a few little, you know, each of the different colours, they have a different name. Like friendship, joy, devotion, blessings and I felt like that was an added intention behind it, so it’s not just beautiful China, it’s not just, you know beautiful little butterflies and peonies, it actually has like …
Bahar Etminan: Supportive intention
Miranda Kerr: An intention behind it, like devotion, blessings, gratitude, and friendship.
Bahar Etminan: I feel like this year has been a beautiful year for you.
Miranda Kerr: It’s been a very busy year, and really interesting year from a creative standpoint. I’ve really, really enjoyed being more hands on, and doing creative projects like, for Royal Albert, and Swarovski as well.
Bahar Etminan: I love that collection as well, and also for Kora as well. I mean, you’ve branched into fragrance and the chakra oils, which is pretty exciting.
Miranda Kerr: And with Kora as well, which is my business and my baby. It’s incredible to be able to really work on projects that, really passionate, like really close to your heart and like they, and it feels like this tea set, and the stemware, and also with the jewelry and then also Kora organics, it’s all like an expression of like who I am. It’s like my essence; it’s really coming through. Through all of it, my intention is to really help uplift the person whose coming into contact with that, whether they’re wearing the jewelry, whether they’re having a cup of tea in the morning, or whether they’re using the products on their skin. The intention is to really just help support and uplift. For me, it’s not just about having a cup of tea, a beautiful cup, there’s a beautiful …
Bahar Etminan: There’s a lot of talk about mindfulness, and I feel that you’re ahead of the curve, because 5 years ago when you did a, it was 5 years now right? Your first book?
Miranda Kerr: Oh yes, Treasure Yourself
Bahar Etminan: Treasure yourself, and you were talking about mindfulness and affirmations then and now it’s become like part of everyday lexicon. And I think, that, I remember one of the first interviews I did with you were saying to me that on your water bottle you would paste on an intention
Miranda Kerr: Yeah, love
Bahar Etminan: Exactly
Miranda Kerr: On my water bottle, you’ll see like, even yesterday I was writing love, peace, happiness, joy, health, because we’re vibrational beings and everything has a vibration and Dr. Masaru Emoto did such a big study on it: on the molecular structure of water and how it changes when you write a positive word on there, or if you speak to it in a positive way. So, that’s why, with all of my products, even, like everything, the words are very powerful even on my products like that little message behind. So, there will be on the back on some of my products, there’s kindness, grace, love, understanding, acceptance, you know, those types of words. Even my products, the Kora organics products, they’re infused through Rose Quartz. So, the Rose Quartz is a crystal that gives that vibration of love, acceptance, it’s a very soothing Rose Quartz.
Bahar Etminan: And I notice with the stemware you’ve got the beautiful pink blush tone, very subtle through it, which is so beautiful.
Miranda Kerr: So, it’s another reason. So, I wanted to create stemware that was beautiful and timeless and elegant but also had a little bit of my essence in it, a little bit of something that was subtle and beautiful and so that’s why we were playing around with that beautiful soft pink, as you can see which if you were drinking like a glass of champagne and you were with your friends and you were drinking it, you almost don’t see it because it’s not in your face. It’s very subtle; it’s like a hidden little message, like ‘Oh, is that pink or you drinking like rose champagne or what is that?’ And the reason why I did that, and when it catches the light, you know, you can see it more. The reason why, the intention behind the soft pink was because it’s the colour of the heart chakra and so to kind of have those soft, there’s been so many studies on colour therapy and what not and to have that soft pink colour, it’s a very like soothing and loving colour and it helps open the heart charka and I just feel like, why not, when you’re having a glass of champagne, have that experience. Everyone needs a little bit of love and so yeah.
Bahar Etminan: I saw some pictures from a couple blogs of your beautiful home in Malibu, it feels like you’ve really nested and I don’t know how much time you get to spend in your beautiful home in Malibu but..
Miranda Kerr: Lately not that much, but I’ve genuinely spent a lot of time there.
Bahar Etminan: And it just feels like, its such a next phase of your life where you’re just nesting the products you’re creating, as you were saying.
Miranda Kerr: They’re products I wanted for myself, and then I like, and I have in my own home and that it’s an extension of me and kind of like my whole philosophy.
Bahar Etminan: Are you a formal entertainer or are you quite relaxed when you have guests?
Miranda Kerr: I am relaxed, but I like everything to be pre-organised. So, I’ll like to have all the meal to be completely like, it depends on what kind of dinner party I’m having. If it’s like a dinner party with say like 10 people, I like to have everything organised before hand, so I don’t have to feel so, so I can entertain them. But if it’s just a girlfriend coming over then we can cook together, it’s like fine. It just depends on the evening, but I really, one of my favourite things is entertaining at home because I’m, because I work out, you know, a lot. You know, I’m outside publically a lot, it’s really nice for me to be able to be home and have people at my house and really just, it’s something I really enjoy doing, it’s like entertaining and I love cooking and having people
Bahar Etminan: You can tell though, because I think it would be really difficult to create this line if you weren’t a cook, and if you didn’t enjoy having people in your home, if you didn’t have that history of having people in your home because there are some people whose parents never entertained or they were never allowed at the dinner table and you can really tell that there’s a true passion for hospitality here.
Miranda Kerr: There is, and that does come from my family like both my mother and grandmother love to cook, love to have people over, and like the door was always open in my family, there was never a problem if anyone, it was like, the more the merrier, come over and I remember like so many people would just turn up at my house and my mum would be like, ‘come in, we’ve got more food, it’s fine, stay for dinner.’ It’s just the way like my family is, that’s just the way that we are
Bahar Etminan: You can see it; you can really feel the warmth of that. You know, the history in all of the things that you create
Miranda Kerr: It’s, I call it like, my grandma is like, she has an intrinsically in her, it’s called generosity of spirit like, there’s always enough for everyone and everyone is always welcome.
Bahar Etminan: And can I ask you, what do you think is the difference between Australians entertain and the way that Americans entertain because you know, you’re living in both. Malibu’s similar to Australia
Miranda Kerr: I just think it has to do with the people like everyone is so different all over the world and these days, you know, the world is so multi cultural so it depends on who you’re inviting to dinner and like, who your friends are as to what kind of experience that you have. I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily different in each country. The only thing that is different in each country is like the way I dress, and so like for instance if I am in Paris, I like to get more dressed up and then in New York. But like a little bit here in Australia, but in Malibu it’s very relaxed.
Bahar Etminan: Well, I wish you a very wonderful holidays, I know you’ve absolutely earned it. And I hope you get to have a glass of champagne with your family over the Christmas period.
Miranda Kerr: I have a really favourite organic champagne; it’s an organic one.
Bahar Etminan: And what’s the brand?
Miranda Kerr: It’s called Organic One, and it’s like so uplifting and on the back of packaging, talking about words, so it’s organic and bi-dynamically grown, and it said: something along the lines of, to invigorate the senses and liven the soul. Here’s to life. I was, oh those words are just, and they’re really good.
Bahar Etminan: Well, you look amazing; obviously walking your talk and having a wonderful time cause you glow. Have a wonderful, wonderful break you really deserve it. And we love seeing you, so we look forward to welcoming you back shortly.
Miranda Kerr: Thank you so much, thanks for having me
