Miranda Kerr launched the David Jones Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection in Sydney. Joining the supermodel was David Jones ambassador Samantha Harris and Australia’s Next Top Model winner Montana Cox.
Rescu. went backstage to capture all the behind-the-scenes pre-show action and scored exclusive interviews for Rescu. TV with Miranda, Samantha, Montana and Napoleon Perdis.
Kerr said husband Orlando Bloom loves her in a maxi dress but is also fond of masculine silhouettes.
Samantha Harris’ fashion forecast was floral prints and said she will be sporting scarves to ward off the chill in winter.
Montana Cox, making her David Jones runway debut, admitted to having butterflies before the parade.
Both Miranda and Montana cited Audrey Hepburn as a style icon, while Montana tipped Miranda to host Australia’s Next Top Model now that the gig is vacant.
Napoleon coined the term ‘über-model’ to describe Kerr’s omnipresence in the fashion world and flattered all Australian women by saying they have an international aesthetic.
The red carpet arrivals followed, as Australia’s A-listers and the designers who dress them entered the David Jones ballroom. Rescu. chatted to Megan Gale (in a Lover LBD), Alex Perry, Joh Bailey, Camilla Franks, Glynis Traill-Nash and more.
Other celebrities to grace the red carpet included Delta Goodrem, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Erika Heynatz and Andrew Kingston, Jodi Gordon and Braith Anasta, Terry Biviano and Anthony Minichiello, and Jodhi Meares.
Dannii Minogue was spotted in the crowd as guests filed into the newly restored ballroom on the uppermost level of David Jones’ Elizabeth Street store in Sydney’s CBD. Tables of four were positioned alongside the runway, transporting the crowd to a Parisian sidewalk as if dining alfresco. The room’s high ceilings with arched windows and giant balloon-shaped lamps lent a warm glow to the salon-style decor.
The parade kicked off with Miranda Kerr in Josh Goot’s navy wool tuxedo. Kerr also modelled a floral print Zimmerman dress, a silk vermillion shift by Dion Lee and an ivory beaded Willow dress, among others.
It was clear that fashion will be all about the dress this winter, with hemlines ranging from ultra-mini to floor-length.
Black is always in, but will be complemented by florals (camilla and marc), vibrant block colours (Bianca Spender) and textural metallics (Project D and Scanlan and Theodore).
From boyish at Bassike and Ksubi to sophisticated silhouettes at Carla Zampatti and luxe glamour at Alex Perry, the Autumn/Winter collections had an egalitarian edge, with something fashionable for everyone.
