Ksubi have just celebrated their tenth birthday with a runway show closing the week of RAFW. The entertainment factor was high as the label headed back into the spotlight.
The boys at Ksubi have always been known as the mischief makers of the fashion industry, and with the announcement of their show at RAFW 2010, everyone was getting ready for what they knew would be an entertaining show. Ksubi were the last to show at RAFW, and they chose an off site location for their comeback.
Stylist Brana Wolf created the looks for the collection which was titled One Via Zero, in honour of their tenth birthday celebrations. Although Ksubi have sent rats down the runway in the past, the only rat we saw this time was on a printed jumper. The models were kept relatively simple and fresh, with straightened hair, yet the runway was intricate with four large screens, and a round catwalk.
With all the anticipation about the show, the collection wasn’t as good as previous designs from the label, and seemed to look to the past rather than the future. Double denim featured prominently throughout, with acid wash jeans and matching collared shirts tucked in. Famous model Emma Balfour made an appearance sporting the double denim look, but the 90s revival just didn’t seem to hit hard.
Besides the obvious use of denim throughout, Ksubi also created graphic print dresses and tees featuring large graffiti text and bold colours. The printed dresses were quite oversized and lacked a sense of silhouette, but thankfully Ksubi added in some body conscious pieces in white mini dresses and skinny leg jumpsuits featuring side cut outs.
In keeping with the hottest new trend, sheer fabrics were also included in tank tops, paired with black leggings and a leather mini skirt. Models sported black trucker caps and opaque black sunglasses, and all wore black ankle booties. Text featured again on long maxi skirts, and sheer long sleeve tops.
Although the entertainment factor was high for the show, Ksubi’s collection seemed to repeat past designs, and lacked specific pieces that really stood out as must haves. Despite this, the label have celebrated their tenth birthday which is a huge achievement in such a volatile industry.
