We always want what we don’t have and our skin type is no exception to that.
But unfortunately if you’re not one of the lucky few that is blessed with normal, well-balanced and hydrated skin, the chances are you’re hanging out for your skin to either stop producing so much oil or you’re desperate to ditch your dehydrated skin.
Though there are pros and cons to each skin type, those with dry skin can sometimes feel like no matter what product you try, your skin just wants more. So what can you do to quench your skin and get rid of that dry, tight feeling? Beauty Therapist Kayla Wolfe said it’s all about implementing a daily skincare regime that is specifically suited to your dry skin.
“A lot of us are using the wrong skincare for our skin type,” Kayla said.
“If you suffer from dry skin, cleansing morning and night with a cream or milk cleanser is much better than gel or foam products.
“Gel or foam cleansers will just strip and dry your skin more and are better suited for a normal or oily skin type,” she said.
Exfoliation is the next step in a skincare routine and is especially important for those suffering from dry skin.
“Using a scrub that has exfoliant beads is great to shed dry, flaky skin and helps the natural cell turn over of your skin,” Kayla said.
“Also using a face washer or muslin cloth helps with the exfoliation process and removes those stubborn dry patches.”
Exfoliating two or three times a week ensures you’re not being too abrasive with your skin, and remember to not exfoliate the delicate area around your eyes.
Finish off your regime with a rich cream moisturiser, specifically designed to quench the skin.
“A good tip to remember is to moisturise while the skin is still damp,” Kayla said.
“It helps to lock moisture into the skin before it dries and feels tight.”
Top tips for looking after dry skin:
* Drink water! It may sound too easy, but drinking plenty of water is especially important for dry skin and is the easiest way to add moisture into the skin while also flushing out toxins.
* After moisturising wait a few minutes before applying your makeup. It takes about 10 minutes for your skin to absorb creams.
* Rub an ice-cube on your face. You may feel crazy but it actually increases blood circulation in the skin and brings moisture to the surface.
