In 1908 West Virginia, Anna Jarvis held a memorial to honour the work of her mother, peace activist and public health crusader Ann Reeves Jarvis, as a part of a mission to establish a day dedicated to mothers and the work they so selflessly do.
Fast forward more than a century and, despite Jarvis’ later attempts to have the celebratory day removed from the calendar, Mother’s Day has prevailed; traveling across oceans and lifetimes.
