The two most popular shows in Australian reality television are coming head to head, with a ratings showdown like never before. It’s My Kitchen Rules vs The Block next week, as both shows bring out the big guns to attract the biggest audience.
The four auctions on The Block: Fans v Faves take place on Tuesday April 8th, with the finale going to air on April 9th. Over on Channel Seven, My Kitchen Rules is planning to roll out the unprecedented fourth round of instant restaurants, which they are calling ‘the ultimate instant restaurant round.’ Viewers will be forced to choose a side in the decisive Aussie TV ratings battle.
My Kitchen Rules always draws its highest rating during the instant restaurant rounds, and the show’s ratings have dropped from over 2 million to around 1.7 million since the teams have moved to the kitchen headquarters.
The Block has been steadily gaining ratings, with contestant scandals drawing in more viewers than ever. Contestants Alisa and Lysandra came to conflict with judge Shaynna Blaze over their low score, whilst one of their opponents, Steve criticised the shows producers for making him look stupid and lazy.
Whilst it would seem The Block has the upper hand with season finales always drawing big audiences, My Kitchen Rules may have managed to throw a spanner in the works this time. Are you Team MKR or Team Block, or a bit of both? With so much excitement on offer, we can hardly decide which show we’ll be tuning in to come Tuesday.
