The sweet smell of summer was most definitely in the air yesterday, setting the tone beautifully for the Myer MBFF Spring Summer show at Sydney’s Town Hall last night…
Fronted by Myer Ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins, and footballer-turned-model Kris Smith, the show featured an impressive line up of designers, including Sass & Bide, Ellery, Karen Walker, Manning Cartell, Fluer Wood, Wayne Cooper, Arthur Galan AG, Magdalena Velevska, Leona Edmiston, Nicola Finetti, Aurelio Costarella, Jayson Brunsdon, Maticevski, and more.
Inspired by the warm sunsets, wild animals and rich culture of South Africa, where the Myer advertising campaign was shot–the show featured a heady mix of pattern and print. Tribal, digital, floral, animal and stripes–ladies, take note–This spring/summer, it’s all about the popping print!
Print-ready
Ellery, Manning Cartel, Cue, and Kate Sylvester all incorporated pretty, wearable prints into their collections, while Karen Walker added a buttoned up sheer paisley shirt suit into the mix–and Leona Edmiston opted for big, bold leopard print kaftan dresses to really get us into the South-African vibe.
Aurthur Galan AG and Charlie Brown opted to double (and triple dose) on matching prints, with Charlie Brown’s matching lime print shirt and short set, and Aurthur Galan AG’s three piece matching print suit. Fluer Wood proved that clashing prints can certainly be a fashion DO with their elegant three piece printed suit in opposing-yet-complimentary patterns.
Oh-so-pretty
Alas, it’s not ONLY about the print this spring/summer, it’s about soft, pretty, feminine frocks too. Nicola Finetti flattered the female frame to perfection in her soft, sheer muted pink dresses and skirts with pops of metallic, mint and turquoise, and Matthew Eager wowed with his sheer, flowing creamy-hued goddess-like gowns with gold sequinned embellishments.
White-out
Crisp, fresh white garments will secure a spot in our spring/summer closet, and we loved Charlie Brown’s take on the trend with their collared short suit, embellished with metallic silver sequins, and Manning Cartel’s sports-luxe white leather pants and vest. We’re also loving Sass and Bide’s liquid metallic silver sports-luxe vibe this season, notably, the super hot, high-impact metallic silver wetsuit dress.
Men in colour
Menswear this spring summer is all about colour. From the sky blue suits of Aurthur Galan AG, to Hartford’s bright red cardigan (played down with a denim shirt) and Marcs’ coloured chinos, our men can’t go wrong with colour this season.
Sizzling-hot swimwear
Miss Hawkins sauntered down the runway rocking that killer bod of hers in a leopard print Cozi two-piece bikini and matching leopard print kaftan. Both Cozi and Seafolly had us super excited for summer with their gorgeous printed two-pieces and vintage-inspired one-piece options.
Last, but definitely not least there were some stunning pieces on the evening gown front, including Aurelio Costarella’s ethereal embellished evening gowns in soft golds’ and creams, which the models wore with gorgeous black lace bunny ears, and Jen Hawkins wowed in Magdalena Velevska’s sexy high-split black sequinned embellished dress.
