Australia’s leading makeup artist, Napoleon Perdis, was again Makeup Director of the David Jones Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion Launch that featured pops of bright, matte colour on the eyes and lips and a fresh and flawless complexion. Find out how he managed to make Miranda Kerr look even more gorgeous (if it’s possible!)
“This was the third David Jones show I’ve done with Miranda and each time, our connection grows richer. What that means for the makeup is that she’s more willing to take her look a little further than she would normally – Miranda knows her face and features better than anyone! She has that perfect canvas of glowing skin in impeccable condition so any complexion work is really minimal with her – just a little of The One Concealer and a light application of Camera Finish Powder Foundation. With editorial work you can really play with the light on set and in post production but for the runway you need to make sure that you project a strong enough statement. So I used my new Mosaic Powder in Flushing (a pretty mosaic of pink and peach hues) mixed with a little Loose Eye Dust in Starlight to highlight her cheek and brow bones to really lift her skin under those harsh lights.
Miranda has amazing, feline-like eyes that don’t need much definition. I did some contouring work in her sockets with some subtle neutrals from a lab sample of my new Ultimate Nude Palette (not available until October) and applied lots of Mesmer-Eyes Mascara to further accentuate those brilliant blue eyes. Then I managed to talk Miranda into lining the inner rim of her eyes with a brown pencil for a more casual smoky eye. She actually applied the liner herself and loved it. For lips I customized a colour for her which was a blend of DeVine Goddess Lipstick in Aphrodite pressed into the lips with some of my new NP Set Lip Balm With Benefits in Baja.
The other thing I love about working with Miranda is I always learn something from her. Just watching the way she let me do her makeup and then made a few tiny tweaks herself – a press here, a pat there – to really be comfortable with the look just reminded me of how important it is for a woman to really make a look her own.
Miranda is the perfect canvas: blessed with extraordinary looks and an amazing body but much more importantly, she’s truly, deeply comfortable in her own skin. And I think that only comes with age and life experience. Miranda just gets better and better!”
