Dior Picks Replacement For Galliano, And The Winner Is…
Marc Jacobs!
Gossip has reached full pitch that Jacobs, who’s currently highly acclaimed for his work at Louis Vuitton, will be moved over to Dior to replace the embattled John Galliano as head designer.
Dior has been without a head designer since Galliano was embroiled in scandal earlier this year.
The rumours – which have been reported by fashion heavyweight publication Women’s Wear Daily, and are thus taken as gospel – insist that Jacobs will switch over to Dior, and Phoebe Philo, who currently designs Celine, will become head of Louis Vuitton as well.
All three creative houses are owned by LVMH, the luxury conglomerate headed by Bernaud Pinault.
Nobody has confirmed anything yet, and Balenciaga’s Ricardo Tisci is still ‘in the running’, but if it’s being leaked to high-profile industry bibles, there’s likely a lot of truth in it.
Will you be looking to see what Marc Jacobs does for Dior? Do you think he’ll save it from Galliano’s tainted legacy?
Victoria Beckham ‘Forced’ To Wear Flats
Ex-Spice Girl and much-lauded designer Victoria Beckham recently gave birth to her fourth child, a girl named Harper Seven.
However, it seems that the aftermath is having an impact on her fashionista lifestyle – most prominently her penchant for sky-high heels, which she’s rarely seen without (even in the airport).
Apparently Beckham has slipped a disc post-birth, and so must live in flats until her back heals.
Such is Beckham’s public devotion to footwear – and such is her reputation as a high-fashion clothes horse for new shoes – that industry insiders are predicting her heel-less state will impact Louboutin sales.
However, they are also predicting a rise in designer flats flying off the shelves as the new mother adapts to her medical condition.
Personally, Rescu. would love to see her in some studded Marc Jacobs ‘Mouse’ ballet flats (at left).
Sass & Bide Launch Sunglasses Range
Just in time for summer!
Sass & Bide have launched a sunglasses range, King Of Plenty, which will probably be a rampant hit among Australian fashionistas.
On sale from September 12, the line is typical Sass & Bide irreverence – leopard print, neon, bursts of colour and vintage chic. There’s everything from an Allen Ginsberg tortoiseshell pair to octagonal frames and gold aviators.
And the kicker? They each have the small star which Sarah-Jane and Heidi, the brand’s designers, share as a bonding tattoo.
Will you be buying King Of Plenty when it becomes available?
Michael Kors Remembers First Terrifying Fashion Show With Anna Wintour
Michael Kors is now an American designer success story – he’s well-known as a judge on Project Runway, and his lines are among the most profitable in US history – but he remembers starting small. Very small indeed.
In an interview with Vogue UK, he recalled his first fashion show – for Anna Wintour herself, then fashion editor of New York Magazine.
Aged just 22, Kors said he had to take every garment with him in canvas bags on the New York subway to Wintour’s office. At that stage he had no design premises of his own.
“I proceeded to make Anna sit through an entire fashion show with just one model,” he said. “It was like, Okay, another one’s coming, another one’s coming!”
Wintour was won over immediately and was the first fashion writer to publicise his work, and Kors has gone on to great heights. His label turns 30 this year.
And, as Rescu. reported recently, he has just married his long-term partner. Impressing Anna Wintour will take you a long way in life!
Karl Lagerfeld Would Not Want Ugly Children
The always-quotable Karl Lagerfeld and ex-Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld interviewed one another for Interview Magazine, and the results were revealing.
Aside from saying that Roitfeld had been virtually ‘imprisoned’ at Vogue – to which she agreed – Lagerfeld complimented Roitfeld on her children. (She has two, Julia and Vladimir, both of whom are regular presences in the fashion world.)
“You’re also lucky because they’re very beautiful,” Lagerfeld said. “It would have been difficult to have an ugly daughter.”
He also mentioned that he did not believe that men really wanted children. “If I were a woman, I would want lots of children – but as a man, I don’t believe in it,” he said to Roitfeld.
The Chanel designer is renowned for off-the-wall quotes. He once said that “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat”, and announced on another occasion that he buys all his shoes a size too small, and that he can eat with his nose.
