Showcasing outstanding colour palettes, daring make up techniques and a range of effortless, textured, classic and downright wacky hairstyles, the beauty looks from New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 did not disappoint. Catch a glimpse of RESCU’s favourite hair, beauty and nail trends straight off the coveted runways.
Strong Lips
Strong, bold lips continue to be one of the most popular spring trends on the runway, injecting fun, sophistication and glamour into the shows. Our favourite lip looks weren’t popping with the classic red, but fun and flirty bright oranges, pinks and fuchsias. Jason Wu was a standout with a beautiful orange-red matte lip that was finished with a smudge of neon orange loose pigment for that extra pop.
The sensual, fuchsia lip at Luca and Luca complimented the strong, femininity of the collection perfectly. Revlon’s Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, said the bright lip colour was glamorous, yet approachable.
“I was inspired by the designer’s color palette and chose shades and textures that would bring out the essence of the entire collection,” says Westman. “It reminded me of the sophistication of an Italian Vogue story I’d seen with girls that looked very luxurious, young and polished.”
Rescu. Loves: For a casual, chic and very cute lip colour that can be worn in the office, to your local café or on a night out we recommend Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fuchsia Fusion RRP $21.95.
Smokey Eyes
The smokey eye remains one of the most sought after make up looks in history and featured in many different forms at NY Fashion Week. Delivering this classic look with a cat-like edge, Maybelline New York brought sexy, smouldering eyes to the runway for Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B show. The models at Erin Fetherston also sported the smokey look, opting for a darker edge with charcoal-smudged eyes.

Pretty Pastels
We could not go past the whimsical, childlike beauty NARS Director of Global Artistry, James Boehmer, created with pastels for the Creatures Of The Wind show. Using a thin streak of baby blue on the lid and a light pinky-orange below the lash line, the look was simple, cool and very pretty.
Natural Beauty
Flawless, creamy complexions with nude lips and earthy tones let the natural beauty of the models shine. We are loving this minimal make up trend for summer and our favourite NY Fashion Week beach-babe look was created by Revlon’s Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, for rag & bone. The look was effortless, sun-kissed beauty inspired by 70’s surfers.
“The look is about enhancing one’s own natural beauty,” says Westman. “I used a rich palette of terracotta, peach, and chocolate brown tones to create a naturally-freckled skin tone.”
Rescu. Loves: Rock the sun-kissed surfer look this spring and summer with Revlon’s New Complexion Bronzing Powder in Sun RRP $34.95.
Estee Lauder’s Creative Make Up Director, Tom Pecheux, created another fresh and beautiful natural make up look for The Row. He said: “The beauty look for The Row presentation is softly sophisticated. The models look fresh, natural and beautiful – what any woman would want to look like when she wakes up in the morning.”
Long, Beachy Locks
We’re coveting the long, voluminous locks from the DKNY show, which used lots of light coloured hair extensions to create a contrast between the model’s natural hair colour for a chic, Hampton’s summer look.
Wella Professionals Global Director, Eugene Souleiman, created this luscious look with the casual, glamorous style of the Hampton’s in mind.
“I wanted the girls to be cool, young and fresh, and their hair to look like it has been in the sun all summer long – so it had variation in color and an arid texture. I wanted the girls to look like they’d be in the Hamptons for the summer and were now back in the City – the contrast of the rich clothes against the fresh, textured hair was what I was after.”
Rescu. Loves: For chic, beachy textured hair use Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz, Beach Texture Spray.
Relaxed, Effortless Hairstyles
There were a number of effortless, messy hairstyles at New York Fashion Week that stood out for their relaxed yet chic execution. Diane von Furstenburg chose a rough beehive-like chignon, which has an unfinished, modern glamour that we loved. Another favourite was the messy bun at Vivienne Tam, which was slightly off centre. The bun was complimented by a side part at the front and loose strands of hair flowing naturally as the models strutted down the runway.

Wet And Dry Textured Hair
The ever popular ‘wet look’ figured prominently at a number of NY Fashion Week shows this year. The models hair was slicked back with a generous coating of gel for Patrick Ervell and the rest of their long hair was left dry, accentuating the two textures. Tommy Hilfiger opted for a toned down version of the wet and dry look, with the models sporting sleek, shiny middle parted hair slicked back into a low ponytail.

Neutral Nails
Neutral nails were all the rage at New York Fashion Week, just like we saw earlier this week for Australian Fashion Week. OPI’s neutral hues complimented a number of big name collections including BCBG Max Azria, Rebecca Taylor and Herve Leger. Estee Lauder also jumped in the neutral bandwagon, painting a gorgeous nude for The Row, which suited the natural style of make up perfectly.
Rescu. Loves: OPI’s Coney Island Cotton Candy is a soft pale nude with a hint of coral that adds that extra burst of femininity to your nails.
