Nicole Richie will debut a new affordable fashion collection with home shopping channel QVC and Mark Badgley and James Mischka would love to see Uma Thurman in one of their red carpet creations.
The designer has teamed up with the home shopping channel for The Nicole Richie Collection – which will debut on the channel’s ‘The Buzz From the Red Carpet – Live From LA’ show on February 24 – which will range in price from $75 to $257 and includes a maxidress, printed kimono jacket and leather bag, with more shirts, dresses and skirts to follow.
Nicole said, “QVC is a well-oiled machine and to be in business with them is so exciting because it gives me an opportunity to design for a much broader range of women.
“I wanted you to be able to walk into your closet with your eyes closed and pick something special.”
The crinkled maxidress is similar to one Nicole created for her Winter Kate collection and she says it was particularly “important” to her to create a version for QVC because it is so verstaile.
She told WWD, “It was important for me to do a version for QVC because it can be worn so many ways. I paid close attention to the seams to give a woman a nice shape, because a lot of maxidresses can feel tent-y.”
As well as the show in February, Nicole – who has children Harlow, four, and two-year-old Sparrow with husband Joel Madden – will appear in a one-hour program in September, and make other appearances on the channel in November and December, which she thinks is a good way to reach out to her potential customers.
She said, “I want to connect with the women watching by letting them know that we are similar in many ways; I’m a mother of two and I work. We all want to feel relaxed on the inside but stylish on the outside. And that’s what I’m trying to provide.”
The designer duo admit they have been fortunate to work with some of the biggest stars in the world but would love to team up with the ‘Kill Bill’ actress because she’s got old-school glamour.
Mark said, “We’ve been doing this for a long time, but we’ve never dressed her. She has that old Hollywood glamour thing to her. We would like to get to her some day.”
However, the pair – who impressed with their New York Fashion Week show – say they never set out to work with A-list stars but now love seeing their dresses on the red carpet.
Mark added to People, “When we started, that whole red carpet thing hadn’t begun yet. But now it’s snowballed, and it’s fun. There’s nothing that’s more of an honor than when you see one of your dresses marching down the red carpet, especially when you know the history behind it: what it took to get it through the sewing machine, how it was conceived from the initial sketch.”
