Rescu. headed to the Nookie show and witnessed a cheeky, fun filled collection that makes us wish Summer would come quicker!
Sydney designer Nikita Sernack’s bubbly personality always shines through into her label Nookie. Her designs are vivacious and fun, and perfect for Summer nights and long days at the beach. Nikita brought her latest collection for the label to RAFW on Day 3, to an absolutely packed house. Many of the guests at the Nookie show included friends and family of the designer, with sister Zoe (from jewellery label Zoemou) sitting front row.
As the show began, Nookie brought a little touch of live music to the runway with an acoustic duet that sung ‘Let Love Rule’, accompanied by a short film in the backdrop. As the first three models entered the runway in unison, Nikita’s love for flirty mini dresses shown through, with the girls in matching micro minis teamed with floor length cardigans.
As the show got under way, it was clear there were two staple must haves from the collection; the mini dress and the floor length cardigan. Bright, bold colours always remain prominently in each Nookie collection, and the Summer of 2011 will be no different, as a team of floral print blazers entered the runway. Comfortable denim shorts with the cuffs rolled up were teamed with a sailor striped tee in a nautical inspired look.
There were some lust worthy crochet knits that are perfect to throw over swimmers poolside, with a particular favourite featuring a black delicate crochet with batwing arms. As body con mini’s were teamed with loose fitted long cardigans and cinched with waisted belts, a colour palette of peaches an florals remained key. Models were accessorised with head scarfs and chunky bangles.
Just as the party mini dress was being paraded as the must have Summer essential, a series of sequinned pieces were brought out and created a frenzy amongst the crowd. Black sequins featured all over a hooded floor length jacket, whilst the real show stoppers were a pair of 70s inspired blue sequin disco flare pants!
Nookie’s fun and frivolous aesthetic is bound to be a hit amongst party girls and stylish beach goers, with it’s selection of sexy tube dresses, cute shorts and relaxed knits.
