Katy Perry Confronts Tony Abbott
As the campaign trail heats up, Australian politics and the celebrity world are starting to collide in ways we did not expect them to…
This morning on Kyle and Jackie O’s popular 2DayFM morning show, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott was given the chance to do what just about every teenage girl in the world wishes she could – ask Katy Perry any question he likes. Abbott opted for the very safe question of when the pop star would be coming back to Australia but Perry wasn’t about to let him get off that easily. She said, “Oh come on, that’s not a political question, let’s talk about gay marriage.” After hearing his stance against gay marriage, Perry went on to say straight up, “…I love you as a human being but I can’t give you my vote then.”
The comments came off the back of Abbot coming under fire after describing gay marriage as, ‘the fashion of the moment’ when in conversation with John Laws so Perry’s comments have caused quite the stir!
The lines between politics and entertainment have also been crossed with news that the Big Brother housemates are set to hear from the federal election candidates and will be forced to lodge postal votes while they are still in the house. It’s the first time in its ten seasons that the show has coincided with a Federal Election and this news puts the show in a position to become a catalyst for discussion about the key election issues. Whether or not this is a good thing only time will tell… we have to admit we’re a little nervous about how the BB housemates could influence young voters decisions!
Offspring Season 4 Finale
Speaking of Aussie television, last night’s Offspring broke all sorts of records – and not just the record amount of tears shed by the Rescu. team during one episode…
The episode showed Nina Proudman (Asher Keddie) giving birth to a daughter after the funeral of her partner and the baby’s father Patrick Reid (Matthew Le Nevez). Naturally, it was cause for much tweeting and instagramming of tissues, chocolate and wine, sending the hashtag #Offspring trending across the country.
The emotional series finale, drew 1.106 million viewers, rating even higher than last week’s death episode which saw 1.057 million viewers tune in.
Despite the tears and tissues, the episode was loved by the majority with the biggest complaint being that we have to wait until next season to find out the baby’s name!
Given that they’ve held off with this reveal, we won’t be surprised if the first episode of season five is yet another record breaker for the show.
Cara Delevingne Cancels Birthday Plans
One of our very favourite off-duty model style queens, Cara Delevingne, has shocked us all by abruptly cancelling her 21st birthday celebrations in Ibiza.
The cancellation comes after a meeting with her modeling agency STORM in which she was reportedly convinced to tone down the partying with buddies like Rihanna and get some much-needed R&R.
A source told a London newspaper that, “Cara has, by her own admission, been burning the candle at both ends over the past year or so. Partying has taken its toll and she is absolutely knackered. Her family were especially worried she was taking the partying to extremes and sat her down for a talk. She agreed to ease up, and take herself away to totally chill out, detox and unwind.”
Normally Delevingne is not one to turn down a party and there’s no doubt her 21st earlier this week is the best excuse for it you can get, so things must be pretty serious. We hope this detox has this most super of the supermodels fighting fit in no time.
