September 9th 2011 may still be a while away but it will mark the day when the Oprah Winfrey show will come to an end after 25 years on air.
A tearful Oprah announced on Friday (20.11.09) that she will take her iconic show off the air in 2011.
‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ has been broadcast from Chicago for its entire history and is shown in 145 countries, making it one of the TV industry’s biggest money-makers. It is the top rated U.S daytime talk show, averaging 7.1 million viewers this year.
Born into poverty in Mississippi, Winfrey is now estimated to be worth $2.7 billion and is regularly ranked among the world’s most powerful women, celebrities and media personalities.
“I certainly never could have imagined the yellow brick road of blessings that have led me to this moment with you,” Winfrey told viewers.
But don’t think that’s the end for the 55-year-old cultural phenomenon.
“After production wraps on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show,’ Winfrey plans to appear and participate in new programming for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, a 24-hour cable network that reflects her vision, values and interests,” Winfrey’s Harpo Productions said in a statement.
We’ve marked the date down and can’t wait to see what surprises Oprah has up her sleeve for her final goodbye.
