Sleek nails and smoky eyes are always a fierce combination. Attain this powerful and elegant look at home with Chanel’s new collection that unifies these two elements to construct a strong look for strong women.
Fashioned for the Metiers d’Art show in Shanghai, this collection is an orient-inspired work of art. Striking shades of black and gold symbolise opulence and modernity whilst allowing the wearer to feel amazing and look likewise. Rescu. loves Orient Extreme because it puts emphasis on powerful, strong women yet still retains a soft and pretty aesthetic.
Peter Philips, the Global Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, and creater of Orient Extreme says ‘The starting point for my makeup creation for the Métiers d’Art show in Shanghai was a reference from Karl Lagerfield to the film “In the Mood for Love”.
Everything was focused on the cheeks and the eyes, as well as on contrasts. The women are elegant but also release a warrior-like force. In the opening of the show, the garments worn by the models evoke that of the “Soldiers of Eternity”. It was therefore necessary to transcribe this attitude in the makeup. For the show, I specially created an Exclusive mini Collection composed of one product for eyes and three nail polishes that can be combined.
The idea of this collection was to play on the contrasts of light: Gold, a rich, noble and luxurious colour which reflects light, whereas the velvet black absorbs it.
For the show I therefore combined gold and black to do up the nails and eyes.’
How to recreate the look:
The Eyes – With ‘Ligne et Ombre de Chanel Jet-Gold’ the eyes are done up with gold on all the surface of the eyelid and the arch of the eyebrows. In contrast to this sparkle which provides a halo of light, a graphic stroke of intense Jet black eyeliner, plus the accentuation of the eyebrows drawn with the brow pencil ‘Sculpte Sourcils’, gives to the eyes a highly seductive elegance and boldness.
The Cheeks – On the cheeks, a soft touch of ‘Joues Contraste Fresque’, a pale pink peach, delicately applied in a glowing roundness.
The lips – The lips were made-up pale with ‘Rouge Allure Insouciante’.
The Complexion – Can be obtained with ‘Pro Lumière’ and the ‘Poudre Universelle Libre’
The Hands – The nails are lacquered in gold with ‘Gold Lamé’. On the tips, in a French manicure manner, a thick black line is drawn with the nail polish ‘Black Velvet’. Here the contrast between black and gold reinforces the warrior attitude of the women whose nails become their weapons. As a top coat, the nail polish ‘Illusion d’Or’ gives a transparent finish.
The Feet – The nails are lacquered with the nail polish ‘Black Velvet’’
