This week’s 84th Annual Academy Awards treated us to a visual feast of beautiful dresses and spectacular makeup, but how was the hair? In our opinion, it was stunning. Most of the stars had their own unique take but there were a few key trends to come out of the variations of styles. With the help of some essential products and tools, we are going to show you how to recreate the top five looks.
The Bob: Cameron Diaz
The soft bob Cameron went for suited her fun, carefree personality and didn’t take too much focus off her dress. This look is all about the blow-dry so you are going to need a good blow-dryer that keeps the shine in.

High Bun: Jennifer Lopez
The bun was big this year but we think J.Lo did it best with her perky up-do. The height, the boof and the super sleek base made her dress and makeup standout even more, and possibly took 10 years off her age.
O&M Technical Director, Wayne Lewis, gives us the essential pointers to create this style.
“For this look you need a good blow dry and great products to make it hold. O&M Atonic (RRP $27.95), is great for a foundation which not only has a heat protector, but also has a hold factor. To do a good bun, sometimes, it may be necessary to cheat and back comb the hair to give fullness and of course, hairspray, to help seal or set the look.”

Side Swept: Stacy Keibler
The girl most famous for being George Clooney’s girlfriend, Ms Keibler blew everyone away with her side swept style. To get the soft waves like Stacey, use a large-barreled curling iron and let hair cool before gently brushing out and sweeping to one side. If you aren’t used to a curling wand, try using a multi-barrel curling wand, which will make it easier to keep the waves even and in line.

High Shine: Rose Byrne
Another bob on the red carpet came in the form of Rose’s simple, clean and chic look. International Creative Consultant for John Frieda, Harry Josh, created the style.
“We wanted it to be all about shine and a high-gloss finish”.
According to Harry, it’s all about product. With a look like this you need the right base to achieve the high-gloss finish. On wet hair, Harry applied John Frieda Full Repair Sheer Mist (RRP $15.99). The heat-activated spray not protects hair from damage and helps to ensure the final look is sleek and straight, without weighing hair down. After blow-drying with a round brush, Harry flat ironed the mid-lengths and gave her a side part. To ensure no hair was out of place, Harry touched up stray strands with the John Frieda Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer (RRP $15.99) by simply swiping the mascara-like wand over her bangs and her crown.

Sleek Pony: Sandra Bullock
Hairdresser to the stars, David Babaii, created this sleek, smooth and flawless ponytail for the actress. To create this look Sandra’s hair was prepped with Miracle Oil Hair Elixir by David Babaii (RRP $29.95) in towel dried hair and then blow-dried with a paddle brush until perfectly straight. After pulling the hair into a smooth, high ponytail, it was secured with a coated band and then hidden using a small amount of hair from the ponytail.

Expert Advice
We asked Wayne Lewis from O&M to tells us how to make this look last.
“Always style hair bigger because it will drop and when doing a hair style on somebody such as ponytails or buns, the higher the ponytail or bun, the more youthful the appearance.”
