Predicting award winners and gown labels aside, a little thing called beauty is oft overlooked in the lead up to the Oscars, but lest we forget these are looks that inspire women for generations, long after they’re snapped by the paps and winners have been announced. Here are RESCU’s hair, skin, lip and eye makeup predictions for the 2013 Academy Awards.

Hair
Alana Dunphy (Session Stylist at Prema Salon) who’s credits include Romance was Born and Carl Kapp shows at fashion week gives us her red carpet hair predictions:
“For the ladies, think sleek, glossy glamorous classic hair. 1940’s, 50’s style wave and movement with side partings. Mostly down with beautiful, shiny, luscious locks. Others will have their hair up for that extra strength, think about glamorous stylings of the Valentino 2013 spring collection – deep side part sweeping across the face with a smooth simple chignon/bun at the back”.
We think Alana’s right on the money in the hair stakes and we’re taking our pre red carpet cues fresh from the international runways. At perhaps the most upbeat runway at NYFW A/W 13-14, Diane Von Furstenberg’s girls sported bouncy, soft waves giving the illusion of an invisible wind machine. It was more serious over at Calvin Klein (hello, Gwyneth) and things got 1940’s Hollywood at the Jenny Packham show which is sure to impact the leading ladies on the red carpet. Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, we’re looking at you.
Skin
In Hollywood, skin is always in and we’re loving the less is more trend from NYFW highlighting flawless, youthful and fresh complexions. With all the glamour of the Oscars, makeup tends to err on the dramatic side of things, but we’re predicting this pared-back makeup look will really make a statement. Sienna Miller did it at the 2013 Golden Globes and we all know Nicole Kidman’s got this one down-pat.
Eyes
The ‘no makeup’ look aside, there’s always room at the Oscars for a smouldering smoky eye. While we’ve seen a wink of the smoky eye in the lead up (highly commended: Julianne hough, Amanda Seyfried) we’ve got our money of the main event to deliver the big guns. We’re predicting the celeb’s will be taking inspiration from the perfect precision at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the deep charcoal and high drama at Donna Karan and of course you can never go wrong with (a little) Chanel… perhaps Hollywood isn’t ready for feathers just yet.
Lips
Red, red wine… We’ve got our heart set on the deepest, vampiest, most seductive lip trend of the season. Move over ‘red carpet red’; it’s all about the crimson, burgundy and plum pout. Camilla Belle and Kate Bosworth brought it to our attention at the 2012 Met Gala and we haven’t looked back since. Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang and Zac Posen are sure to have a number of recent runway gowns on the red carpet and we’re predicting the deep lip will follow suit. We hope Marion Cotillard and Anne Hathaway are reading this…
Colour
The Academy Awards, may leave the big awards for the heart-wrenching dramas and intense thrillers but that doesn’t mean the makeup has to be serious as well! We can’t wait to see a few bursts of colour on the ruby rug and we’re loving the purple and violet shadows from Jason Wu and fuchsia lips as seen at the Diane Von Furstenberg show. Take note, Kerry Washington!
