As our hair was in dire need of a trim, it seemed perfect timing when Rescu. was invited to celebrate Our Place Salon’s first birthday with a complimentary cut and style. Owned by KMS California’s International Artistic Director, Clive Allwright and fellow stylist Kelly Grant, this salon is a small Sydney gem.
Located on a swanky tree-lined street in Potts Point, Sydney, the tiny salon is cosy, warm and intimate. The walls are elegantly decorated with large, gold gilded mirrors, Vogue front covers and there is an extremely cute bunny shaped light sitting on the floor that we were dying to take home with us.
RESCU’s editorial assistant Melissa and beauty intern Eleanor, walked in from the rainy day a little wet and looking very dishevelled. Instantly feeling welcome by how easy going and friendly the atmosphere of the salon was, they enjoyed herbal tea (made from real tea leaves) and a delightful head massage while getting their hair washed.
As they consulted with Clive and Kelly about what they were after, they glanced to the side to see Australia’s Next Top Model judge, Charlotte Dawson, in the middle of getting her hair done. Hmm, if it’s good enough for someone mid-season on a hit TV show, then it’s good enough for us!

Clive gave Eleanor’s hair The Chop (pictured left), and as if the result wasn’t good enough, his hilarious sense of humour made it even better. From bedraggled mess to chic bob, thank you Clive!
As a KMS California Ambassador who regularly travels around the world doing magazine shoots and runway shows, Clive has a pretty good idea of what hair trends are hot right now. When asked what we can expect for spring, he surprised us by saying it’s all about Individualism.
“People aren’t coming in asking for what their friend has. Take Balayage for example, that was a huge trend but now things are changing. It’s all about uniqueness and individuality, people want to look like themselves, not like anybody else.”
Melissa didn’t want to part with her beautiful, long hair, so Kelly gave her a trim to tidy up the ends then waved it using a clever little invention called MyCurls. Mel usually finds it hard to add volume to her hair, so you can imagine how excited she was when Kelly produced big, luscious locks with tonnes of volume (pictured left).
Both girl’s walked out 45 minutes later feeling confident, sophisticated and ready to show off their new hair.
