For years it seems like we had nude, nude and more nude lips but I’m happy to say that I am loving the return of the pink lip.
There is nothing fresher than highlighted skin and defined brows and eyelashes, mixed with a pop of pink lip. From soft creamy pinks, to raspberry or a stained rose, a little pop of pink will liven up bronzed glowing skin this coming summer. The warmer months scream simplicity with makeup, especially in Australia! So all you need is a little bronzer, mascara, a soft eye pencil that can be turned into a shadow, a highlighter and your pop of lip colour – that one pink shade that can take you from day to night in an instant.
But why the sudden change to pink?
It’s fresh, feminine and with so many depths and levels of pink, there is one for everyone. In winter we tend to bring out the deeper red shades, so for those that love some colour, pink is the perfect choice for the warmer months and looks great against summer skin.
PINK AND SKIN TONES
A pink shade lip can be as soft and creamy in the nude category, or as bold and neon as you can get. But knowing what will suit you best is key and it all comes down to your skin tone, even before the outfit you wear.
If you tend to have pink or redness in your skin, pink is not normally a go-to choice. This is because, wearing a pink lip will just accentuate the fact your skin tone contains pink. In this case, rather than piling on foundation to get maximum coverage, just so you can wear pink, try a warmer variety of pink instead of a true pink lip.
All lip colours have either a cool or warm undertones and this makes it easy to find your perfect shade!
Fair + Pink base skin – Try a summery, warm version of pink. Avoid neon, bright candy, or pinks with too much blue undertone. Try a peach pink or dusty rose.
Olive + Yellow base skin – Any pink will pretty much suit, as your skin tone can be dull with no colour present. The darker the skin, the deeper and brighter the colour can go.
If pink skin is a real concern, generally it is only around the T-Zone area.
You don’t need to apply a lot of foundation and concealer to get full coverage. If you have a trouble spot like redness that you’d like to cover, apply to the red area only, leaving the other areas of your skin as fresh as possible. This avoids the mask like foundation look which can look very unnatural.
MB PRO TIP
To cover a problem area, use either foundation and concealer (for redness a neutral, flat shade is best that has no yellow or pink) and dab to apply. If you dab or press and roll you’ll get good coverage onto the area you’re trying to conceal, then blend the edges and that’s all you need.
This is the perfect amount of pink lip for a skin that generally has a lot of redness. Go the warmth!

TRENDS
There are 3 main pinks that I am loving this upcoming summer season.
All look fresh and when used correctly can brighten any skin. Sometimes a light stain is all you need for that perfect pout and summer is the perfect time to play up some colour.

PASTEL PINK
A pastel pink is the new summer nude. When you are dressing up your eyes and have nude, bronze tones, the pastel pink gives lift to the overall look (especially for an olive skin) without taking away from the eye as a focus. When you apply a true nude, it can often loose the freshness and as summer is coming, you want this fresh approach to your makeup.
Apply your lip colour as a stain with your fingertip for a soft, more matte approach which is great if it is a humid climate. Or add a touch of gloss to the centre of the mouth for extra pout. A little dab of your lip colour onto the apple of your cheek can add a fresh blushing glow and you’ve got to love a two-in-one!

ROSE PINK
This rose pink is the more traditional pink lip colour, and being bold it becomes the statement of your makeup. So don’t try and go too crazy with eyeshadow as it will all look overdone.
Using a bronzer under your cheekbone to lift and shape the cheek, then use the same bronzer on the eyelid to sculpt the eye. Add some mascara and once the lip has been applied a fairly quick makeup look is upgraded by one simple colour.
This shade of pink is a great everyday shade and can also be used as a touch of cream blush on the very front, apple of your cheek for extra summer freshness.

RASPBERRY PINK
We just left a season of bold reds and deep wine shades and now it’s time to brighten it all up with a touch of raspberry. This is your statement lip. It’s all about the lip and everything else on the face is an accessory to the lip.
Eyeshadow is kept to a minimum, it’s all about the sculpting shade in the socket to open the eye and if it is an evening event, a touch of metallic on the eyelid. Add some lashes and your eyes are done. Your eyebrows needs to be strong to balance out the pop of lip colour, so add a little brow powder to add density and brush your brows upwards for lift.
When wearing a bold lip like this raspberry pink, use lip liner after you apply lipstick. Using it before can sharpen the lip look, as you have nothing to trace over yet. Once lips a full and coloured in with this new hue, then apply lip liner over the lipstick to define the lip edge, keeping the lips plump and the lipstick being the hero, not the lip liner.
So go on ladies, try your best pink shade this summer and say hello to the freshness.
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it’s the perfect shade to show your support this month.
