Prabal Gurung’s debut collection for ICB (International Concept Brand) was launched via an online-only fashion show on digitalfashionshows.com
Gurung wanted to live-stream his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection for the Japanese brand to lessen the stress on retailers and editors. Gurung felt indebted to them for their support and believes live streaming is a modern tool that will change the face of fashion.
The collection itself was designed for a witty, intelligent and worldly woman with “innate good taste”, said the designer. “It is affordable luxury”, he continued. Juxtapositions of fluidity and structure, print and monochrome, feminine and masculine, built on Gurung’s philosophy for his mainline but at a more accessible price point.
Persimmon, aubergine and indigo block colours were offset against midnight black and kaleidoscopic prints. Hemlines floated just above the knee, while pants were relaxed but tailored. Leather and fur featured on jackets but Gurung’s favourite was a chartreuse wool cape, which he said was “very simple, timeless and classic”.
The beauty look, which was created by MAC make-up maestro Gordon Espinet, was inspired by the effortlessly chic women who will be wearing the collection. He said, “She wants to look good but not necessarily done. There is a naturalness about this look but it’s not meant to be girly or sweet. It’s better described as cool, modern, and ‘in the know’.”
A glowing, flawless complexion was achieved by prepping and priming the skin and applying foundation and concealer. Crème blush and highlighter were applied for a dewy, flushed finish. The hair was minimalist, parted down the middle and left loose, while nails were a shade of sea green.
