Prince George Fashion Watch: How To Nab His Look

The fashion frenzy that’s accompanying the Royal Tour of Australia isn’t just confined to the McQueen coats and Zimmerman dresses of Duchess Kate.

The 8-month-old Prince George is turning out to be quite a fashion plate, too – and inspiring rapid sell-outs across the globe.

eBay and other retailers are already on the case, with eBay Australia’s Trendwatcher Megan English reporting that “the George Effect” is causing big ripples in the market for baby clothes.

“We saw a spike in searches for dungarees like the ones he wore in New Zealand last week,” she added, and eBay now “expect affordable versions of George’s blue and white striped polo tee, royal blue cargo pants and matching navy buttoned shoes to fly off the virtual shelves”.

So if you have a young wriggly fashionista who might like a Prince George-style piece, here are a few ideas.

George caused a stir with his boat-patterned all-in-one as he came off the plane in Sydney – and you can copy the look with Mini-La-Mode’s Toy Soldiers romper, perfect for future kings (or just wannabes).

For the famous playdate where he knocked a New Zealand baby on the head with her own toy (diplomacy in action), George rocked some excellent dungarees, and we recommend Petit Bateau’s dark blue numbers for other state-visiting bubs.

A striped shirt is always in fashion, and putting on a Bonds tee will help small boys impress all the little girls in their playgroup by aping George’s Taronga Zoo look. And to copy his snuggly cardigan in New Zealand, pick up one of Purebaby’s knitted numbers – they even have Fairisle.

And then, of course, there are accessories – namely footwear. George shows a tendency towards navy blue, and Children’s Salon’s Cuquito navy blue leather boots are probably on his wish list.

Sneak Peek: Jessica Hart’s Louis Vuitton Campaign

louis vuitton jhartJessica Hart is one Australian model making major waves on the international fashion scene.

And now the Victoria’s Secret model, who’s also the face of Guess, has revealed her latest major campaign: as the face of Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2014.

She was allowed to leak four of her favourite shots onto Instagram on Easter Monday (at least we hope she was).

And it’s been a long time coming – the campaign was shot in Miami in December.

So what can we expect from Louis Vuitton’s summer range?

The look is sleek and retro, with head scarves, pin tucks, classic pink florals and, of course, a major beach bag.

Louis Vuitton believes we’ll be carrying a simple white bag emblazoned with their details and pink or purple straps to the beach come summer.

Does it fit a towel? Yes, if it’s part of the LV range – all 1960s-inspired, with pinks and yellows against white backgrounds. The Mad Men influence is strong in summer fashion this year.

The Future Of Shopping: Image-Recognition Apps

ASAP-1Ever seen a piece of clothing – in a magazine, on the side of a bus, walking down the street – and immediately wanted to know what it is and where to buy it?

Technology now exists that might tell you immediately – and it’s all on your smartphone.

Image-recognition apps, as they are called, match a photo of whatever your desired article is with their databases, trying to match it with its precise designer and a place nearby to buy it.

They’ve been around since about 2012, but are getting major attention now, with a lot of new players on the market, from ASAP54 to Slice Fashion.

However, it’s not all about finding the exact match – which appears not to be possible 100% of the time.

Some of the apps actually find suggestions instead, based on various aspects of the item you want. ColourPop, for example, makes suggestions based on the item’s colour, while StyleEyes looks for similar articles in its database of 1.5 million pieces.

That business model seems to be more realistic, because if you discover that the handbag you desired so much is actually a custom Hermes Birkin, you might be better off finding less expensive things.

However, the technology still has glitches – the Guardian in the UK reports that 8 of the staffers at one 20-person image recognition firm are responsible for continually updating the software, day and night.
