A big crowd has gathered outside the Opera House this afternoon as international tourists, office works on school children on their holidays gathered to catch a glimpse of Prince William, Duchess Catherine and Prince George who have officially landed in Sydney.
The royal family arrived in Sydney at 2.30pm this afternoon, alighting their Royal Australian Air Force flight in style, with Kate stepping out in a vibrant yellow Roksanda Ilinčić dress, with the baby prince in her arms. This is both Kate and Prince George’s first trip to Australia.
Whilst only a small crowd were allowed to gather at the airport to greet the royals, hundreds are flocking to Circular Quay to catch sight of them there. At the airport, Prime Minister Tony Abbot, Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and NSW Governor Marie Bashir were there to greet the arrivals.
Premier Barry O’Farrell was absent from the welcoming party, having resigned just hours earlier after ICAC examined his controversial receiving of a $3000 bottle of wine as a gift.
The young family was greeted with a reception for 400 esteemed guests at the Opera House, with the crowds outside the building bursting into wild cheers and applause as the royals stepped out of their vehicle and were escorted up the stairs by NSW Governor Marie Bashir.
Prince William Kate and baby George have just concluded a whirlwind tour of New Zealand and will now remain in Australia for ten days, certain to attract crowds wherever they go.
