Sydney put on an unseasonably dazzling Easter Sunday, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (and adorable Prince George) lapped up every moment of it. From picturesque harbour views, to a traditional Easter service, and the brand new bilby enclosure at Taronga Zoo, the young royal family have seen Sydney at its best and we couldn’t be prouder.
Easter Sunday was the big finale to the Sydney leg of the Royal Tour, which has previously seen the royals visit the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Manly Beach, the Blue Mountains and more local attractions.
The big day starting with a trip to St Andrew’s Cathedral for an Easter service. Crowds flooded to George Street to catch a glimpse of the royals on their way to church. Kate put on a show in a flawless dove grey Alexander McQueen coat dress and Jane Taylor hat.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then took little George to Taronga Zoo for the opening of the new Bilby enclosure, named after the nine-month old. The Australian answer to the Easter Bunny, the bilbies on show almost upstaged the prince on the cute factor, and we were thrilled to see how excited the little prince appeared to be by the Aussie wildlife.
Whilst the prince was animated and excited by the real bilbies, he was less than impressed by the stuffed bilby he was presented as a gift from the zoo, throwing it aside as soon as it was presented to him.
Of course, a trip to Australia wouldn’t be complete without a little koala cuddling, so Prince William and Kate took a moment to get up close and personal with our most famous animal at Taronga. Looking as picture perfect as ever under the Sydney sun, the duchess wore a pale yellow dress by a designer who mysteriously did not wish to be named.
‘They were just like any other family,’ said Taronga zoo keeper, Paul Davies. ‘Prince George was so lively.’
Taronga Zoo boasts more than the best in Australian wildlife, the zoo also has arguably the most stunning views of Sydney harbour, and with the clear blue skies and unseasonably warm weather, we couldn’t have hoped for better end to the Sydney visit.
