Pro Skin Tips For Your 20s, 30s, 40s

Who doesn’t want to shave a few years off their looks? RESCU’s new cosmetic surgery expert, Dr. Mark Kohout, tells us his secrets to looking younger in your 20s, 30s and 40s – without going under the knife. Read and learn…

We all want to age gracefully and the good news is that the telltale signs of ageing, such as crowsfeet, pigmentation, wrinkles and a dull complexion can easily be prevented and treated. And don’t think you need to go to the extremes of plastic surgery to look 20 years younger – you don’t. There are simple, effective treatments and prevention methods that women in their 20s, 30s and 40s can all adopt. Here are my skin tips:

Beauty treatments in your 20s

State of skin: Skin in its 20s is still developing, so the key at this age is non-invasive treatments and preventative beauty regimes.

Skin tips:

  • The number one rule in your 20s is to ensure that you use plenty of sunscreen as part of your daily routine – just as you would brush your teeth. Smother a lightweight sunscreen under your foundation and reapply when you’re outdoors.
  • Invest in a good moisturiser. One containing Vitamin E will maintain hydration and ensure you have soft and supple skin. You may also want to try some of the new moisturisers, which contain hyaluronic acid, which is the same compound found in injectable fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm.
  • Twice a year, I’d suggest investing in a light fruit acid peel. Peels strip away any dead skin cells and leave skin fresh and revived.
  • If you’re looking to make any semi-permanent changes to your look, keep it conservative – too much at such a young age will detract from your natural self and you will look fake very quickly. Keep it simple with a filler to your lips to get a more pouty look, or even filler in your face to accentuate your cheekbones. Don’t go overboard though – you might regret it when you look back on your pictures!

Beauty treatments in your 30s

State of skin: In your 30s, changes in hormones and lifestyle choices can result in the appearance of pigmentation and fine lines, particularly around the mouth and eyes.

Skin tips:

  • Ensure you maintain your daily application of sunscreen, and consider a few more semi-invasive treatments that will slow down your age clock.
  • Botox around the eyes is a great place to start to give you an all over revived youthful appearance. Ensure your practitioner targets the frown lines between your eyebrows and crowsfeet around the eyes. You will very quickly notice the difference and have a refreshed look. A subtle brow lift or shaping with Botox can also give you a fresher, younger look without looking obvious.
  • Photo rejuvenation is also worthwhile at this age, as it breaks down the pigmentation in your skin and also plumps up the crevices that form fine lines and wrinkles.

Beauty treatments in your 40s

State of skin: When women enter their 40s, frown lines begin to appear, both around the brow area and above the lip.

Skin tips:

  • Fillers such as Restylane and Esthelis are perfect for plumping up thinning lips and to give you a natural fullness that tends to thin out with time. Fillers also make a noticeable difference around the mouth, upper lip lines and the corners of the mouth, where down turned lines can make you look sad and tired, even if you feel great!
  • Regular Botox injections every 3-4 months to frown lines and lines around the eyes make you look fresher and less tired. If you want an all over facial rejuvenation that will take years off your look, complement this with slight Botox brow lift, which restores a youthful brow line. I prefer to keep the Botox doses moderate so that you retain some natural expression; no-one likes the immobile, expressionless look.
  • It is also essential at this age to ensure that you are using a superior range of skincare.
  • Keep your skin moisturised, maintain a commitment to sunscreen application, and drink plenty of water.
  • Obviously avoid smoking and drinking, which will reduce pigmentation spots, and remember; life begins at 40!
