Two of the US’s starriest names in fashion have ventured into democratic fashion design – Rachel Zoe’s easy-to-wear lifestyle brand doesn’t come with couture price tags and Zac Posen is bringing trend-driven fashion to everyone!
The stylist-turned-fashion designer says she isn’t trying to compete with couture designers such as Marc Jacobs but instead hopes to create a lifestyle brand.
She told LA Confidential magazine, ”The last thing I’m going to do when I come out with a collection is try to be Marc [Jacobs]. I’m not trying to make a huge statement. I’m just trying to make beautiful, wearable, tailored clothes.
”I’m not just launching ready-to-wear – I’m launching a lifestyle brand. I want head-to-toe Rachel Zoe. I want this to be getting dressed with my jewelry, my shoes, my bags, my gloves. I want it all.”
Zoe launched her old brand in partnership with global supply-chain-manager Li & Fung Limited last year and says she chose to create her own collection because she felt there was a ”void” in the market.
She explained, ”I felt there was a void in what I was looking for, just as a shopper. I wanted to be able to go and buy a beautiful tuxedo or a suit or a great little party dress that wasn’t, like, $2,500.”
The designer has teamed up with store Lord & Taylor to create a more affordable line, Z Spoke Zac Posen for Lord & Taylor, and says he was inspired to do it so everyone can have the chance to look good.
He told PEOPLE, ”I believe that trendy clothing should be accessible. And I want to directly acknowledge that fashion loves bodies. I love women who have bodies and curves, so I really want to embrace that. My ideal are the women on the street.”
Speaking about his clientele, Zac said, ”They are trend-driven, flirtatious, socially savvy through media and life on the street. I try to create a collection that can have a youthful quality to it, but has an age-and shape-diverse ability, too.”
Zac also hinted he may create an affordable accessories line, if the clothing range does well.
He said, ”We’ll grow the accessories and some other categories that might happen in the future … that I can’t talk about yet!”
