Season after season Life with Bird’s collection is the epitome of relaxation with their laid back look, and for RAFW 2011 it was no different. Designer duo behind the brand, Bridget McCall and Nicholas Van Messner, brought cool, calm and collected to the runway through sheer, flowing fabrics and the always-gentle hue of nude.
Beautiful florals popped up in this ethereal collection, adorning dresses and exploring greys, blues and indigos. Life with Bird subtly instructed us to forget about formfitting pieces and go for something we can simply ‘slink’ into that wont cling or constrict.
Hair, styled by Redken, and make-up, applied by MAC, were equally serene with that feeling of “just sit back and relax” floating in the air. Make-up focused on that fresh and dewy look we all wish we could achieve and hair was all about being wispy but futuristic.
The runway show itself was a theatrical experience, set in a large space with white walls that you could only label as an ‘empty canvas’, but centred within it, a structured grid that had been tapped to the floor. Models walked in perfect formation along the lines of each square and found their place in this picture. As a whole, the staging was the perfect contrast to the lightweight feeling of the sensual pieces that made up this season’s collection.
