A young designer who has already gained the riches of experience through working with fashion greats such as Giorgio Armani, Michael Lo Sordo is a young talent clearly on the rise. His Spring Summer 10/11 collection featured today at the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, with a design aesthetic that demonstrated a real maturity.
Sensual, soft and feminine, the collection featured full-length pleated skirts made with watercolour prints that beautifully combined both structure and flow. There was a sense of modern romance with sheer sleeveless bodysuits, carefully draped mini dresses, tailored shorts and cropped cutout jackets.
The palette drew from a collection of warm colours, including musks, nudes, fawns and beige. Subtle points of interest were created through cutouts and a modern use of pleats became a theme throughout the show.
With Lo Sordo having spent time working at national broadcaster SBS, it was no surprise to see one of Australia’s most respected journalists, Jenny Brockie, in attendance to offer her support. Other guests such as April Rose Pengilly (daughter of rock legend Kirk Pengilly) seemed to be particularly enraptured by this captivating collection, as no doubt many others will be.
