Using the theme of the evolving butterfly, Sydney-based designer Marie Hatzis-Ritchie presented a glamorous and rich array in her Hussy Spring/Summer 10/11 collection Metamorphosis, on day 5 of the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.
Butterfly tops, dresses and draped shorts were embellished with gold and silver metallics. The shape of the butterfly featured in the early casual wear, which, like the story Hartzis-Ritchie was telling, quickly evolved into more sleek and sexy dresses. From loosely draped dresses with cutout shoulders emerged elegant yet glamorous creations.
The colour palette was rich and diverse, drawing heavily from the inspiration of the colourful butterfly. Deep purples, emerald greens, yellows, blacks and golds shimmered with silver beading and sequin details.
Following in the theme of evolution, the pieces became increasingly more dramatic and complicated as the show progressed. In a striking turn, a group walk of five models in bold oranges and print dresses marked the transition from daywear to evening.
To mark the final transition, another group walk of three models led into a stunning series of black dresses with metallic lined cutouts that appeared influenced by the riches of the Middle East. As the finish drew near, out came a series of deep purple gowns with intricate silver beading that seemed ever more rich and extravagant. With the final transformation complete, we were left with the show stopper – a sequined black white and yellow mini dress – that captured the brand’s sassy personality.
The audience were clearly impressed by the transformation as a cacophony of whistling and applause continued for several minutes after the final walk. And it was well deserved. Seated in the front row was TV host and actress, Tania Zaetta, as well as former Project Runway contestants Amber Renae and William Lazootin.
