Want to look stylish and sexy on the beach or by the pool? Sydney swimwear label Seventh Wonderland, show us how to splash out in bold, bright prints.
Background and History
The Australian swimwear industry is hard to stay afloat in. As a designer you are faced with many other labels around you producing the same prints and cuts, leaving little room for imagination or growth. To make yourself noticed amongst fashionable beach goers and poolside lovers, you need to find a unique aesthetic and go with it. That is exactly what emerging swimwear label Seventh Wonderland has achieved with their bright, playful and utterly sexy designs.
Designers Bonnie Coumbe and Carlos Aviles are the talented brains behind the label that has quickly created a strong, loyal following. Bonnie and Carlos’ idea of wonderland is represented through their fun-loving, vibrant designs.
Style and Philosophy
The designers have taken a unique approach to swimwear that has set them apart from their competitors. Using quality fabrics and beautiful prints, Seventh Wonderland is an addictive label that stands out from the usual swimwear designs we see on our beaches. They incorporate on-trend styles from the runway into sleek swimwear designs, topped off with unique and innovative prints.
One major trend that has made them a favourite amongst stylish swimmers is the cut out trend. Their pivotal collection from S/S 08/09 placed Seventh Wonderland as ‘the ones to watch’ in the competitive swimwear industry. Bonnie and Carlos played with halter neck tops, clashing prints and cut out designs across waists, finished with ruffle detail and a cool sophisticated silhouette.
Aside from their unique array of fashion forward swimwear, Seventh Wonderland have also dabbled in the apparel arena, with cute crochet knits and romantic layered dresses. Singer Megan Washington recently wore a Seventh Wonderland rock inspired bustier dress to the Aria awards and renowned newspaper The Australian recently featured the emerging label as one to watch, claiming ‘Seventh Wonderland is making a splash internationally.’ Bonnie notes that the aesthetic of the label is namely a ‘70’s style, very detailed..giving you the experience of going into a wonderland, a world where people can escape, dream and get away.’ She explains that the Seventh Wonderland customer is a ‘fashion based girl, she wears the designs with clothing. Wear your jeans at night, and take it to the beach as well.’
Rosemount Australian Fashion Week and the Future
The versatility of the Seventh Wonderland designs are what has attracted a growing array of stylish girls to the label. One piece’s can be worn poolside, or tucked into denim shorts at a music festival. They work both as swimwear and as cute and flirty apparel. We can expect to see great things from Seventh Wonderland at the 15th year anniversary of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week; this is one swimwear label that is changing the way we view the Australian beach lifestyle. Seventh Wonderland is showing at RAFW on Monday 3rd May 2010.
