Excited to see what new talent Australia has to offer? Emerging label Gary Yang shows us how the disciplines of architecture and fashion mix together.
Background and History
Rosemount Australian Fashion Week celebrates the many talented labels that we offer to the world, yet what is always the most exciting part of this annual event is the showcasing of emerging labels. This year, in the RAFW 15th anniversary we are looking forward to viewing the work of some new Australian talent; one of these talents is designer Gary Yang. In an industry where designing women’s wear is extremely competitive, Gary Yang Collection takes classic styles and fuses them with modern on-trend detail.
With a focus on flattering modern cuts that combine architectural shapes, it is clear to see the distinct artistic influences that designer Gary Yang uses in his work. Gary studied architecture at the University of Queensland, where he graduated with honours. This past education clearly resonates as an influence through his structured and defined designs.
Style and Philosophy
Gary Yang Collection was only established in May 2009, but since its early inception into the industry it has already achieved great attention from fashion magazines such as Shop Til You Drop and Marie Claire. Gary only uses the finest fabrics such as Italian silk and French lace to produce his exquisite designs. His designs are first and foremost influenced by his love for architecture and his surroundings. Other key environmental factors that resonate through his work include music and other elements of design.
Gary Yang’s latest Winter 2010 collection features a selection of quality tailored evening and cocktail dresses, as well as more corporate day wear. The Gary Yang woman is sophisticated and stylish and appreciates fine, feminine detail. Gary plays with feather fringing on hemlines, bustier cut dresses, and pleated detail. Soft satins in red, mauve and bronze, feature alongside sleek black blazers and suit pants. The Gary Yang Collection provides a sleek and sophisticated look for the modern woman.
Rosemount Australian Fashion Week and the Future
Gary Yang Collection is set to show at RAFW this year alongside Breathless, Leigh Schubert and Sally Koeswanto in the Women’s Ready to Wear #2 show.
