The Rebecca Vallance Spring/ Summer 2013/14 showing at the exclusive Ananas Brasserie in The Rocks brought together an alluring french sensibility with the cream of the Australian fashion crop. Read on for more…
The collection was entitled ‘Paris au Printemps’ and was inspired by the first blossoms of springtime in Paris. The vibe was modern and feminine, with modern geometric prints in neutral taupe and bright sunburst hues symbolising an aerial view of the city’s streets. Representing the famous gardens and boulevards of Paris were bold, floral pops of colour in cherry red, violet and lime, reminiscent of the emerging buds of spring.
Signature lambskin leathers in black and blush were juxtaposed with soft crepe de chine and silk georgette, striking a balance between modernity and femininity. There were lightweight brocades in pearl and midnight blue, which echoed the grandeur and romance of the city, adding rich texture to capri pants and sheath dresses.
Inspired by the effortless chic of the quintessential Parisian girl, models sported velvety skin and dramatic eyes enhanced by MAC’s Nicole Thompson. The beauty look was nonchalant, complimented by feminine chignons slung loosely at the nape of the neck by hair stylist Sophie Roberts using products by TRESemmé.
Former PR Rebecca attracted a slew of notable guests including model Lara Bingle and racing royalty Kate Waterhouse. Also present front row were Vogue Australia’s Edwina McCann and Christine Centenera, as well as editors fromsuch as Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and RUSSH. All in all, the event was an elegant expression of the designers talent for combining luxurious fabrics with feminine flourishes that felt oh so French, yet perfect for an Atipodean sensibility.
Rescu. Fashion Commentator Glynis Traill-Nash was in attendance at the show and said, “Rebecca continues to develop her collections of what women actually want to wear. I loved the juxtaposition of soft leather basics, created with a lot of attention to cut, with more flamboyant silk pussy-bow blouses – one of my all-time favourite items. As a whole, it successfully negotiated that very fine line between youthful and sophisticated.”
