Recreate the chic hairstyles at L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Week, thanks to our tips from L’Oréal Professionnel

We can’t wait to steal the glamorous looks from LMFF. Here, the experts from L’Oréal Professionnel explain how you can copy the textured look from Runway 1, or the chic, pinned style from Runway 4.

Look 1: Textured look

“Wind swept texture”, comments Brad Ngata, L’Oréal Professionnel Hair Director at LMFF 2010.

“There were four looks in total, each one inspired by raw, wind swept texture. The feeling is light and airy, quite feminine. There’s definitely a trend for rough, dry and chalky textures with wind-swept ends. It’s a look that is soft and ‘undone’ but with a great matte texture to it.” Brad ensured a common theme was prevalent across each look – chalky texture.

“Asymmetry is a strong influence in hair too. For one of the looks, we swept the hair off to one side, combining this with the same dry texture,” said Brad.

How to get the look

*For all looks, prep damp hair with tecni.art Full Volume Extra mousse. Blow-dry the hair slowly without using a brush to encourage a rough chalk-like texture.

1. Then, for the hair down look, use medium-sized curling tongs to curl random sections of the hair.Start at the mid-lengths and curl in various directions to keep the hair looking effortless.

Top tip: Using tongs will leaves the hair more dressed and finished. This look has a modern shape so no volume at the root.

2. To create the quiff, apply a small amount of tecni.art Volume Lift spray mousse directly to the roots and dry in, again using just your hands and the blow drier on the lowest heat setting. Push the front middle section of the hair into a slight quiff and pin. Gather the ends and the side lengths and loosely. Pull the remaining hair into a chignon at the nape, secure with pins.

The products used:

1. L’Oréal Professionnel tecni.art Full Volume Extra

2. L’Oréal Professionnel tecni.art Volume Lift

3. L’Oréal Professionnel Elnett Satin Strong Hold hairspray

Look 2: Bon chic pinned look

“The hair is a fun and fresh take on the Preppy Sloane Ranger persona – the uppermiddle-class youngsters hanging out in London’s Sloane Square, or thereabouts!” explains Hair Director for L’Oréal Professionnel Brad Ngata.

“The hair look is a classic down style, injected with plenty of body and movement through the mid lengths and ends. The accent of the look rests on the gorgeous sweeping fringe that is loosely pinned above the ear. This look is a great way to add a fringe if you’re not brave enough to cut one!”

How to achieve this look:

1. Prep the hair once with tecni.art Full Volume Extra and then again with tecni.art Volume Lift.

2. Blast hair dry to about 80% so there is enough moisture left to then be blow dried with a medium round brush.

3. Section the hair from ear to ear. Starting at the back section, begin with a section of hair at the nape that is the same thickness and width in size.

4. Using a medium round brush, roll the hair up and apply heat with the dryer. Next, switch to the cold button on your hair dryer. This will set the movement in the hair. Unravel your brush to see that a big bouncy curl has been formed. Spray with Elnett to set the hair in place.

5. Repeat the process until all the hair has been dried.

6. At the front, direct the hair back by combing with your fingers. Next create a side part and then take a horse-shoe section of hair and gently backcomb the

front lengths. Sweep the hair across the face and pin back loosely, on the opposite side of the parting, twist the section back slightly before you pin.
