How to get the look
There are a few different ways to achieve this look, firstly, blotting. Apply a deep red, then when you blot it will get a little lighter so go deep to start with (Napoleon Perdis DeVine Goddess Lipstick in the shade Xenia is perfect) Next, take a tissue and blot off the product leaving the lip stained beneath.
The second option is to mix a little of the same lip colour into a lip balm to create more of a wash of the colour rather than an opaque effect. Another option is to go with a product created for that purpose. I really like Smashbox tinted Lip Treatment Lipstick in Ray.
Rescu. also recommends: Benefit Benetint stain as the base to build the perfect red tinted lip. Lasts for hours and looks so natural and kissable.
