On day 4 of RAFW, Redken inspired us to consider a side part (courtesy of Gary Bigeni). We were also impressed by the textured look at Kooey, created by Maria Ardino’s clever use of volumising sprays and vigorous backcombing.
LOOK 1 “Side-parted hair with enamel-like shine” at Gary Bigeni
The inspiration:
“The hair at Gary Bigeni is a fusion of different finishes and textures to give the style an interesting and modern feel to it,” says Redken Hair Director Daren Borthwick.
Daren’s hair look was simple, sleek and no fuss with enamel-like shine on the top lengths and soft natural texture on the bottom lengths. The style uses contrasting wearable textures in the lengths, wet and dry, to complement the soft jersey draping and pastel palette of the collection.
How to get the look
1. On clean, straight dry hair, make a deep side part. Brush the lengths back into a low ponytail and secure at the nape.
2. Slick the top lengths down with Redken For Men Stand Tough to the nape.
3. Follow with a light spray of Redken Vinyl Glam 02 for incredible shine. Comb the hair back till smooth and even. Leave to dry.
4. Use a blow dryer on a low hot setting to set and dry. Then gently brush the ponytail and undo the hair tie.
5. Rub a small amount of Redken Outshine 01 into the palms of hands and spread through the bottom lengths for shine and smoothness.
LOOK 2: Kooey
The inspiration:
This look is all about aerated movement and texture…lots of texture,” says Maria Ardino, a Redken Hair Director.
“The hair is very much influenced by young, doll figurines with a soft floatiness and contrasting textures,” continued Maria. The hair was blow dried smooth at the top and then curled and backcombed thoroughly at the back to generate maximum volume and fullness.
How to get the look:
1. Apply Redken Touch Control 05 to damp hair for all over texture ad workability.
2. Next spray Redken Layer Lift 07 on the lengths for enhancing a tousled texture.
3. Blow dry the front and top lengths straight whilst still creating some volume with a large round brush. At the back, scrunch the hair whilst drying to enhance texture.
4. Brush the hair away from the face, using the hair dryer to help direct the hair back with heat.
5. Next use a curling iron to tong the mid-lengths only for extra body and movement. Once curled, heavily backcomb the lengths and spray with Redken Forceful 23 to hold lengths in place.
6. Use metal sectioning clips to pin the top flat. Apply heat, leave to cool and remove at the last minute.
7. Finish with Redken Forceful 23 to hold style in place.
