“Change is inevitable – except from a vending machine.” (Robert C. Gallagher)
It doesn’t matter who we are or what we do, change is a common factor in all our lives. We change our hair, our jobs, our minds, and once a season (or more!), we change our wardrobe. Old clothes go out, new ones come in and staple pieces stay. But sometimes we get a bit bored of the classics, so we change how we wear it – dress it up, dress it down, accessorise differently, it’s a reinvention for that item of clothing.
It’s the same with our fragrance wardrobe; we might love a fragrance, but if we wear it too much, we get tired of it. Luckily, a lot of popular scents have updated or slightly different takes on our signature scents that will relieve our boredom! Here are some ideas to freshen up your fragrance wardrobe:
If you love Marc Jacobs Daisy…
Daisy Eau So Fresh has the same fun, bubbly feel as the original, but it’s brighter, lighter and fresher. It starts with fruity notes of ruby red grapefruit, raspberry and pear, plus green leaves, followed by sweet lychee, apple blossom and a spray of violets, wild rose and jasmine petals. Lastly, a creamy base of musk and the addition of plum and cedarwood ground the fragrance.
Available at Myer, David Jones, The Perfume Connection and selected pharmacies (75ml EDT -$115, 125ml EDT -$145; also available as a body lotion)
If you love Estèe Lauder Beautiful…
…but are wanting something not so overpowering, Beautiful has just been released as an eau de toilette. You get the same fragrance you know and love, just not as concentrated as in the eau de parfum. A stunning floral, popular for brides on their big day, Beautiful contains 19 different types of flowers, including jasmine, rose, lily, tuberose and orange blossom. Beautiful is a crisp, fresh fragrance full of femininity.
Available at Estèe Lauder counters nationwide (50ml EDT – $100)
If you love Bvlgari Jasmin Noir…
Still based on the ‘black jasmine’, but lighter and more vibrant, with a hint of sweetness, Mon Jasmin Noir combines feminine floral notes lily of the valley, Sambac jasmine and angel wing jasmine with a fresh citrus start and sensual base notes of creamy ‘musky nougatine’, cedarwood and patchouli. Mon Jasmin Noir is bright, sweet and seductive, but keeps the sophistication of its predecessor.
Available at Bvlgari boutiques, Myer, David Jones, The Perfume Connection and selected independents (50ml EDP- $124, 75ml EDP – $178)
If you love Jean Paul Gaultier Classique…
Its newest incarnation, Classique X, has all the elements of the original that keep it on the best sellers list, just fresher, smoother and younger. A trio of citrus notes, bergamot, mandarin and orange, lead into a heart of peony and orange blossom, with a sweet and powdery dry down of iris and vanilla. You could wear Classique X during the day, and the Classique EDT (or, if you’re wanting something more intense, the EDP) at night. ‘X’ doesn’t have the spicy oriental feel that Classique is known for, but you can definitely tell that they’re related.
Available at The Perfume Connection (50ml EDT – $114.95, 100ml EDT – $164.95)
For men who love Dolce & Gabbana The One for Men…
A lighter, slightly sweeter alternative would be The One Gentleman. While still keeping the same woody feel as the original, the new scent has a greener, slightly more herbal opening, with notes of ginger and an added zing of pepper. A warm base of cedar and tobacco ensure that it’s a perfect scent to wear on a cool day.
Available at Myer, David Jones, The Perfume Connection and selected pharmacies (50ml EDT – $89, 100ml – $124; also available as a deo stick)
