What is Booty Camp?
Think outdoor fitness designed by women, for women. And because it’s for women, it focuses on the bits of the body that matter – flatter stomachs, toned arms, shapely legs and a faster metabolism. Booty Camp sessions are set in the beautiful beaches and parks of Australia – easily the most inspirational gym on earth.
Rescu. asked Booty Camp Trainer of the Year, Kristy Rakowski, for her top training tips to get results and stay motivated in the winter months:
- Keep your gym kit next to your bed In winter, it’s colder in the mornings which can be a great excuse to ignore that morning training session and roll over for another hour’s sleep. If you get your gym kit ready the night before and lay out in order, next to your bed, you can literally wake up, get your kit on and get right to it – no excuses!
- Get warm first I tell my clients to layer up, this way you can take a piece of clothing off one at a time once your body temperature starts to warm-up.
- Sweat before you stretch A good warm-up is critical in all four seasons – it is never a good idea to stretch cold muscles, but even more so in winter, so make sure you have a light warm up jog before doing any stretching as cold temperatures tighten your muscles which can cause injuries.
- Train in a group If motivation to exercise is suffering during winter then I would definitely recommend training in a group like Booty Camp. Booty Campers are motivated by the camaraderie of a group session – like working out with girlfriends, but with the results of a personal trainer. After a few weeks, Booty Campers are working out with girlfriends and it’s all in the absence of men trying to prove they are fitter and stronger than everybody else! And of course through group training, you also benefit the expertise of your trainer, who can help you with a fitness regime that will really make a difference.
If you find it hard to get out of that warm bed, by joining a ‘team’ to train, think of those team mates out there in the cold, exercising and getting sweaty – you may be warm in bed but they are one step ahead of you getting into that sexy bikini for summer!
Lastly, many other boot camps run with very large classes but we believe that in this environment, women don’t get the personalised attention they deserve, so all Booty Camp sessions include between six and 12 people – the perfect number to feel like a team but be treated like an individual.
- Interval training is what we implement at Booty Camp and is the best way to get maximum results and motivation – especially if motivation is suffering during winter.
Interval training really challenges your cardio (through running, steps or boxing) and builds strength while you recover (through press ups, sit ups, squats and all the good ‘oh my muscles hurt’ stuff). Essentially, interval training gets your heart rate up as high as you can take it, then it recovers…then up and recover again.
By incorporating lots of different combinations and exercises, interval training keeps the session fun and interesting – it is the best way to build fitness and give you all the great things that come with it like increased energy, faster metabolism and looking fantastic.
- Winter Wardrobe Winter is the time to get out the skinny jeans, leggings and killer heeled boots, so what better motivation to exercise than looking fabulous in them?! And, by focusing on looking good in your winter wardrobe, you are also putting the groundwork in for looking great in summer, on the beach, in your bikini. Essentially, it is important to stay active throughout the four seasons to be happy and healthy.
Remember to keep well hydrated Even though during winter you may not feel thirsty it is important to stay hydrated during any form of exercise at any time of year.
