2011 brought with it the straight fringe and the long bob. Over it? 2012 is bringing with it an old hairstyle made new and flaunted by some of the biggest stars in Hollywood including Katy Perry, Tyra Banks and Kim Kardashian.
‘Finger waves’ are all the rage. This style was created in the 1920s long before we had curling irons and hot rollers and it looks to be making a grand comeback in 2012. ‘Finger waving’ is the moulding of wet hair into gorgeous “s”-shaped curls. They are called finger waves because to create them you use your fingers!
Finger waves can be achieved in all lengths of hair and can be tight or loose curls depending on the style you want to achieve. You may also opt to only finger wave your fringe or only the lengths, the possibilities are endless!
1. Hair must be thoroughly damp. Apply Fudge Hair Gum ($18.95) to damp hair and comb through to ensure the product is evenly distributed.
2. Make a clean straight side part with a Lady Jayne Tail Comb ($3.99) from the crown to the front hairline and comb hair in the general shape you see it falling.
3. Working on the side part, shape the top section of your hair with the teeth of the comb using a circular c-shaped movement starting at the hairline, work towards the crown in sections until the crown has been reached.
4. Place a finger of your left hand directly above the position for the first right section. With the teeth of the comb pointing slightly upward, insert the comb directly under the index finger. Draw the comb forward along the fingertip.
5. With the teeth still inserted in the ridge, flatten the comb against the head in order to hold the ridge in place.
6. Remove the left hand from the head and place the middle finger above the ridge the index finger on the teeth of the comb. Emphasise the ridge by closing the two fingers and applying pressure to the head.
7. Continue to work in this fashion down and around the head until you have waved all of your hair or you have finished waving the sections you choose to style. Once all of the waves are completed, leave your hair to dry and set.
