Rihanna has been seen coming out of River Island headquarters, British high street label, prompting curiosity and Kylie Minogue flew in to Sydney as the guest of honour at the Sydney VIP Mardi Gras Party at the Conservatory Bar with guests including Magda Szubanski and Charlotte Dawson.
Rihanna may be set to work with British high street chain River Island. The ‘You Da One’ singer – who is renowned for her love of eccentric British style – visited the headquarters of the shop earlier this week, and although a spokesperson claimed she was there to visit a friend, they added no more information about a collaboration was happening “at this time”.
The representative said, “Rihanna did stop in on Monday to visit Vanessa Lewis, owner Bernard Lewis’ wife. Vanessa and Rihanna’s mother are acquainted and went to dinner in Barbados. She picked up a few jumpers and a pair of studded denim shorts, but there is nothing else to add at this time.”
Rihanna has long considered her image important, and recently is believed to have paid £15,000 for an emergency haircut after her tresses were ruined during a trip to a sauna, and paid for her Los Angeles-based-stylist to come to London to help fix it.
A source said, “When she got out, her hair was tangled and matted. She slapped a load of conditioner on but it didn’t get through the mass. “She didn’t want to take a chance on the unknown.”
Pop princess, Kylie Minogue stole the limelight as VIP guests celebrated the 2012 Mardi Gras. Minogue was the big name guest as an intimate group of celebrities, media and community leaders gathered to celebrate at Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park a few days before the official parade and party, at which the singer performed.
Magda Szubanski, Charlotte Dawson, Angela Bishop, Mark Trevorrow were included among the VIP guest list. Kylie’s mentor, the rock music promoter Michael Gudinski was also in attendance but few could take their eyes of ‘our Kylie’ dressed in red lace and shimmering, silver heels.
“I always say, love is love is love.” Minogue said.
It’s been a long time since Kylie performed at Mardi Gras, 14 years would you believe! Minogue said returning in 2012 just “felt right”, particularly as this year Kylie fans get to celebrate her 25 year career for the rest of 2012, announced as ‘K25’.
“It’s going to be interesting for me to see what it’s like, having last been there in ’98. I’m actually trying not to think about it too much because I get a little too excited,” Kylie said before the big show.
