It’s time to start studying the lyrics to Rihanna’s back catalogue because the six-time Grammy Award winning pop star is headed down under this year!
Everyone’s favourite Barbados-born singer, who just this month was named the world’s most-streamed female artist on Spotify, has announced she will be bringing her ‘Diamonds’ tour down under this year, much to the delight of her fans.
Attendees will be in for a very fashionable show – Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci designed all the on-stage costumes for the singer including a gold-embroidered black cape. Tisci told Vogue that Ri-Ri, “represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented.”
The world-wide tour has already kicked off in America but the star has had to cancel some shows due to a bout of laryingitis. Lucky for us, it’s nothing too serious and we’re sure she’ll be back in fighting form by the time the Australian leg of her tour kicks off in Perth on the 24th of September.
Tickets for all Australian shows go on sale 9am Friday 22nd March through Ticketek or TicketMaster. Presale tickets go on sale this Friday March 15. Prices are yet to be announced.
While Rihanna has made more than a few Aussie fan’s day, Taylor Swift has likely hurt the feelings of many of her most loyal followers. The pop darling was caught when a passer-by discovered hundreds of unopened fan letters in a dumpster in Nashville, Tennessee. Kylee Francescen, the discoverer of the trash, told a local radio station, “There were like hundreds of letters in there to Taylor Swift and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ I didn’t know if they were stolen or discarded, so I threw them in a box. And I’m like, ‘Somebody needs to let Taylor know.”
We’re sure no one will be surprised to hear the mail was covered in hearts and glitter and looking very out of place in a dumpster.
A spokesperson for Taylor explained the situation by saying, “a small batch of mail that was supposed to be delivered to Taylor was accidentally put with letters headed for the recycling center.”
Swift is known for her dedication to her fans – she spends hours after every show meeting and greeting the people who wait to see her and just this week made an out-of-the-way trip to a hospital in Nebraska to visit 10-year-old fan, Lauren Hacker, who is suffering from leukaemia, so we’re inclined to believe the fan mail dump really was just an innocent mistake.
The 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 15th and is set to open with Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel ‘The Great Gatsby’.
Trailers for the film have been nothing but the sumptuous display we have come from the director of Strictly Ballroom and Moulin Rouge and we it has got to be one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.
In a statement, Luhrmann said, “It is a great honour for all those who have worked on ‘The Great Gatsby’ to open the Cannes Film Festival. We are thrilled to return to a country, place and festival that has always been so close to our hearts, not only because my first film, ‘Strictly Ballroom’, was screened there 21 years ago, but also because F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote some of the most poignant and beautiful passages of his extraordinary novel just a short distance away at a villa outside St. Raphael.”
This will be the third time one of Luhrmann’s films has opened the festival – both Strictly Ballroom and Moulin Rouge had the honour in 1992 and 2001 respectively.
