Pretty and punk, Roccobarocco offered something for everyone in a mixed display of structured pieces, out-of-the-world accessories and floaty feminine dresses. Colour blocking and playing with gender is nothing new to high fashion either, but when someone does it as well as Roccobarocco, we just can’t not write about it!
The clothes
Colours And Structure
The Roccobarocco collection offered a smorgasbord of looks, with something for everyone and any occasion. At the Milan runway show, the colours of the Italian flag were appropriately featured, together and separately, along with black, white and metallics.
Tuxedo style jackets were in stark contrast against lingerie style bodices and floaty chiffon skirts, demonstrating a real reference to masculine and feminine dressing and stereotypes.
We just can’t get enough of the metallic pink foil trench and the white, full circle, short-at-the-front, bodice dress, that would be the perfect wow dress for a formal event.
The Hair
Up In The Clouds Ponytails
Swinging 60s ponytails were sky high, in a fun do that marched down the runway. Hair on top was slick with not a strand out of a place and black coil ribbons were secured at the base of pony, so it looked like hair was standing up on its own, before sprouting into a long, straight mane.
Get the look
Tools you will need: A hair tie, black ribbon, fine tooth comb and hair spray or gel.
- To get your ponytail super high throw hair forward with your head down and gather in hands, making sure to collect wispy bits from the front and back.
- Bring head back level and secure with hair tie, checking in mirror for placement and precision. Using a strong hold hairspray or gel, Rescu. loves: KMS California, Hairplay Paste Up Spray ($36.95) spray all over and use a fine tooth comb to brush back and up towards the pony tail for extra slickness.
- To finish the look, use a black ribbon to wrap (criss-crossing) around the base of the pony tail, knot and tuck ends back into already wrapped ribbon, and you’re done!
The Accessories
From round sunglasses, a Rescu. favourite, to flight attendant hats (a cute touch), the accessories at Roccobarocco gave the collection attitude and edge. Purple suede ankle cut heels (pictured) were on display, featuring a number of buckles and a zip back that gave off a punk vibe. While we weren’t massive fans of the fool print tights they were paired with, we can imagine rock star celebs like Gwen Stefanie or Fergie, pulling them off.
