Ahhh February, the month of love. While roses, chocolate and a fancy dinner might rock some people’s world for Valentine’s Day, every couple is different when it comes to their idea of romance.
If you’re anything like the lastminute lovelies, a getaway with your special someone is muuuuch higher on your wish list than an expensive dinner – why do you think we picked this job. Being forced to order from a set menu and share your ‘romantic’ night with countless other couples doing the same thing in close proximity is not really our thing (been there, done that).
We also believe romance should be alive every day of the year, not just February 14! With this all in mind, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite ideas for a romantic escape in Australia on Valentine’s Day or any time of year.
Live it up in Tropical North Queensland! Impress with a stay at the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas and take the plunge with a Great Barrier Reef Dive. With on site dining options, poolside drinks at the Ocean Breeze Bar, swimmable saltwater lagoons, pools, a golf course and tennis courts, this baby earns major brownie points.
If you and your partner love to cook and eat out (or even if you’d just like to broaden your meal repertoire), why not take a cooking class together? Melbourne is arguably Australia’s foodie capital so what better place to spend a weekend exploring the laneways of cool cafes and taking part in a Seafood BBQ cooking class (oysters are mean to be a powerful aphrodisiac after all!). If you have flown in we recommend shacking up at the Grand Hotel MGallery Collection for that old world romance feeling or get modern at the Art Series – the Blackman.
The extreme activity possibilities are endless but we think a sky-dive is still the ultimate. One of our favourites is a beach sky-dive in Wollongong on the NSW South Coast. Make a weekend of it, taking the scenic Grand Pacific Drive and staying at the Chifley Wollongong located on the foreshore and close to the beach and cafes. That extra adrenalin rush has to come in handy in the evening (if you know what we mean!)
Head to the marvellous Margaret River in WA and check in at the gorgeous Acacia Chalets. The luxury self-contained chalets (there’s only three and you’re in a natural bush setting so you’ll have plenty of privacy) are sure to impress. Make sure you book in for a wine tour to sample the best the region has to offer.
If champagne taste on a beer budget sums up your Valentine’s Day/romantic escape aspirations, you can’t go past our Secret Hotels ® four to five star hotels up to 70% off the normal price. Choose the general location, read up on the features and hints we provide, book away and you’ll receive the hotel name on your booking confirmation. With one Secret Hotel booked every four minutes on the site, you can be guaranteed that it’s going to be a good deal.
