The Inspiration:
Jon said, “We created two distinct looks for the show; a dishevelled, intricate up-style and a 1950s calendar girl down style; where gorgeous ringlets and glossy texture morphed one look into the other.”
“The down curls had plenty of bounce and incredible glossy shine, while the up-style had an unforced, elegant feel.”
How To:
- Prep both looks with Redken Spray Starch 15 for heat protection and strong curl memory. Next use Redken Rootful 06 for fullness at the roots. Part the hair to one side and blow dry the product in.
- Using medium sized curling tongs, wrap one inch sections of hair around the tong beginning with the lengths at the back. Curl hair all over, however only to eye level for the front section either side of the part.
Look 1:
- For the down style, curl each section using tons and pin each section to the scalp and leave to cool.
- Once cooled, remove pins. Rub a small amount of Redken Glass 01 between fingers and run through lengths from roots to tips for maximum shine. Follow with a soft bristle brush to slightly loosen and shape curls from roots to ends.
Look 2:
Even though this look is quite intricate, create a similar look at home by following Jon’s simple steps.
1. Curl one section of hair at a time. When you begin, start at the back and work your way up the head.
Gently rouge each curl with your fingers to create a wool like, undone effect and pin each curl along the vertical centre of the head into place.
2. Slowly bunch the curls together by pinning them next to or on top of each other. Repeat the same process all over until all the hair is pinned up.
3. Secure loose areas with more bobby pins if necessary. Use your hands to gently ‘squish’ the style to make sure it’s tight and secure.
