The Sydney Morning Herald has reported Australian-raised actor Russell Crowe has split from his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer.

According to the paper, Crowe’s busy work schedule is to blame since over the next 12 months the 48-year-old has six films coming out including “Man with the Iron Fists,” “Les Miserables,” “Broken City,” “Man of Steel,” “Noah” and “Winter’s Tale.”
As a result of these upcoming films, Crowe has been away from his family for most of this year, since Spencer and his two sons Charles, 8, and Tennyson, 6, are based in Sydney.
The Oscar-winner first met and started dating Spencer 22 years ago on the set of 1990’s “The Crossing,” before he made it big and became an A-list Hollywood star.

During Crowe’s early days of Hollywood A-list success he briefly began a high-profile relationship with actress Meg Ryan, but later returned to Australia and rekindled his relationship with Spencer.
“The thought [of marrying her] crossed my mind the first time I met her,” he told the Morning Herald at the time of their April 2003 wedding.
The couple married on Crowe’s farm in Australia’s New South Wales. 9 years later their separation is said to be amicable and the couple’s number one priority is raising their sons.
In June, Spencer caused a gossip uproar here in Australia when she was photographed out on the town with her dance pro partner from “Dancing With the Stars.”
At the time, the couple dismissed talk of any infidelity, but Crowe hasn’t been around much in recent months and it’s clear the strain of his absence on their marriage has become too much for the pair.
Crowe is currently in the US filming Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic “Noah”.
