Get the low-down and the know-how on the trends and our favourite beauty looks from the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013 red carpet and Bio-Oil makes a move with Look Good… Feel Better.
At Rescu, we know to never underestimate the powers of a hair and beauty expert, so when Alana Dunphy (Session Stylist at Prema Salon), who’s credits include Romance was Born and Carl Kapp shows at MBFWA, was asked what her predicted hair trends were for Red Carpet Season, she was right on the money for the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013.
“For the ladies, think sleek, glossy glamorous classic hair. 1940’s, 50’s style wave and movement with side partings. Mostly down with beautiful, shiny, luscious locks.”
Sure enough, it was all about the hair on the SAG Awards red carpet with leading ladies Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Lawrence each sporting their own take on the 1940s retro side swept do’.
Naomi Watts rarely puts a beauty foot wrong on the red carpet and the Aussie actress looks every bit old Hollywood from head to toe, with a few licks of mascara and a bold fuschia lip to add vibrancy to the complexion.
Jennifer Lawrences’ makeup was a standout on the crimson rug with a Taylor Swift inspired cat-eye and fire-engine-red lip. It was retro glamour meets modern romantic and we can’t get enough of this fresh look.
We love Amanda Seyfried’s sultry make up paired with her deep side part and dreamy waves. For exceptional smoky doe eyes we recommend the Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara ($52) teamed with the Napoleon Perdis China Doll Gel Eyeliner ($32.95) and blend, baby, blend!

Nicole Kidman is a hair chameleon when it comes to the red carpet and we were pleasently surprised to see a bold bob cut from the Aussie star.
Hair expert and stylist, David Babaii showed off Nicole’s new solid bob hair cut with a sleek, super straight look.
“In order to achieve flawless straight hair, control is a must,” says David, who started by warming a small amount of DB Instant Straight Smoothing Balm ($24.50), in the palms of his hands before applying it through the hair.
Next, he dried her hair with the nozzle attachment and a large round brush to smooth hair completely straight, sectioning hair first into top, sides and back.
To begin, he started by drying the nape area first and then proceeded until her entire head was dry. After creating a side part and to ensure sleek perfection, he misting Miracle Elixir Hair Oil ($29.95) all over her hair to ensure healthy, sexy shine. “The trick is to spray from arm’s length to ensure even, light coverage,” he says.
Smooth away any flyaways by spraying with a styling spray and gently pat over the crown.
Sexy starlet, Nina Dobrev from TV’s The Vampire Diaries makes us wish summer would last forever! A breath of fresh air on the night, Nina was a prime example of red carpet makeup perfection. From the flawless complexion to the peachy blush and understated eye and summery lip (not to mention our bronzer envy) Nina does the sun-kissed glow like no other.

Feel like you’re suffering through your skin dilemmas, insecurities and ailments alone? You shouldn’t! Model, Robyn Lawley, TV presenter and journalist Sally Obermeder and actress Christie Whelan-Browne have been there before.
These three women are set to front Bio-Oil campaign that speaks openly about positive body image and female confidence. Bio-Oil Australia is abetting self-confidence nationwide in conjunction with the Look Good… Fell Better, a cosmetic industry community initiative helping cancer patients, with the launch of their Skin Stories campaign which celebrates the individuality found on everyone’s skin. Bio-Oil is set to donate $5 to charity for every Skin Story shared.
Skin Stories will encourage women (and men) around Australia to share their skin-related tales in a bid to break down the barriers and generate talk about skin concerns, which are often hidden or taboo.
Robyn Lawley said, “I grew so fast. One second I was a normal height and the next I just sprouted. Stretch marks on my body came out of nowhere and I remember being really self-conscious of that”
“Skin Stories is about women helping other women find positivity and confidence in their skin, and this is something that really resonates with Look Good…Feel Better,” says Jan Samuels, CEO Look Good…Feel Better.
Bio-Oil is accepting Skin Stories at www.facebook.com/Bio-Oil-Australia The first 2,000 stories will translate into a $5 donation to Look Good… Feel Better and all story entrants will go into the draw to win Bio-Oil Products.
