Samantha Cameron hosted a cocktail party at Downing Street to mark the end of London Fashion Week, while Drew Barrymore can’t wait to splash out on Marni for H&M and MAC Cosmetics will release a Marilyn Monroe-inspired collection.
Samantha – wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron – used the glamorous event to speak of the importance of British fashion as she believes it can help the country as a whole.
She said, “British fashion is no longer just about strong creativity, it is about strong businesses too.
“I’m passionate about what fashion can do for this country, and if we’re really serious about British fashion, we need to not just design it in Britain, but make it in Britain.”
Guests at the event included Anna Wintour, Sir Philip Green and Laura Bailey.
As the womenswear shows in the UK capital come to end, the fashion pack now move onto Milan.
Erdem, Christopher Kane and McQ all put on stunning shows and while London holds its menswear events, the attention now focuses on Italy.
Milan will kick off with Gucci, Alberta Ferretti and Alessandro Dell’Aqcua’s No.21 with Fendi, Prada and Moschino all later in the week.
The ‘Going The Distance’ actress loves the stylish pieces created by Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni for the high street store but says the best thing about them is their reasonable price.
She said, “I love that it’s accessible and affordable. I mean, bottom line, I want to get a bag of clothes for the price of one garment. That’s what shopping is all about for me.”
‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star Frieda Pinto also revealed she will be splashing out on the affordable collection.
She said, “I wouldn’t go out always and buy a designer dress. But I do shop at H&M, so it’s nice for me to know that I can have an H&M Marni, and not just a Marni – which would burn a hole in my pocket!”
Mila Jovovich added that she has “always respected” the brand.
“Everyone loves Marni’s prints, everyone loves Marni’s cuts,” she said.
“They really know how to bring the best out of a woman. It’s classic, beautifully shaped … it’s almost like rock ‘n’ roll Jackie O.”
The look of the iconic beauty – who was recently portrayed by Michelle Williams in movie ‘My Week with Marilyn’ – will be represented by a limited edition range including 30 custom-designed items priced from $15 to $27.
Among the pieces will be various eye shadow shades, lipsticks, nail polishes and eyeliners, and the range will be launched across the world in October.
MAC is well known for their collaborative pieces, with Nicki Minaj, Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga all previously working with them.
‘Super Bass’ singer Nicki unveiled a MAC Viva Glam lipstick in support of AIDS prevention and awareness last week, and she admitted she was delighted to be able to work with the brand.
She said, “When I was chosen by MAC Cosmetics to be the next Viva Glam spokesperson, I wanted to hug everyone at MAC for giving me this opportunity. I’ve always wanted to be a Viva Glam girl.
“What’s important about Viva Glam to me is that every cent goes to the MAC Aids Fund. It’s bringing awareness to my culture. That’s why I’m really, really excited about this campaign.”
