Sandra Bullock is on the rise. Still. From roles in movies about runaway buses, beauty pageants and gravity defying endeavours, she continues to tick all the boxes in her career – and her killer body/hair/style – leading up to her 50th birthday.
Beauty:
Move over Meg Ryan. Sandra Bullock staked her claim as America’s Sweetheart back in her Miss Congeniality days. Her role choices may have become more superior over the years – leading to a recent Oscar – but her beauty has remained approachable and low key. “I know my job looks glamorous, but you don’t see what I look like in the morning with no make-up and with very little sleep!” she has said, noting her best beauty secret is “a great makeup artist!”

When it comes to her key cosmetic, it’s a tanner. Even though she is a self-confessed sunshine-phobe, she says she likes to look like she’s been out in the sun “even though I hide from the sun at all times and wear a high SPF,” she has said. To achieve this, she uses a tinted moisturiser for a healthy glow “without looking like I’m heavily made up.”
With skincare she is a little more adventurous, admitting she pays more attention to ageing these days – but doesn’t dwell on it too much – and dips into divine creams of the upper echelon regularly. “I love La Prairie Anti-Aging Emulsion. It’s not cheap, and I have no idea if it works, but I love how it makes my skin feel.”
Wellbeing:
Being such a frequent flyer, Sandra doesn’t use travel as an excuse for letting her fitness slide. She simply ramps it up to cater for the terrain. When in L.A it’s weight training and kickboxing and when out of town she tailors her training to include solo runs and rides. Aside from that, it has been reported that Sandra is also a fan of the infamous Barry’s Boot camp, which includes an hour-long mix of high-intensity treadmill intervals and circuit training.
When in New York Sandra is shadowed by celebrity trainer and ex dancer Simone De La Ru – who also works with Anne Hathaway – and combines Pilates, resistance, lots of jumping for core strength and light weights in her grueling sessions.
Sounds hardcore, right? But this is one actress who isn’t so serious about how much she sweats, and if she in fact doesn’t for a while. “If I can work out every day, I will,” Sandra has said. “But there are times when I won’t do anything for two weeks, and I’m, like, you know what? I talk enough to burn calories.”
Style:
With a celluloid career that started in the 80s, there is nowhere to go in fashion but up. But Sandra’s ascension from starlet to style icon has been monumental, even by Hollywood terms. She now is photographed regularly nailing day and night looks, with a heady dose of nonchalance about it all.
Granted, she may not have the fashion following of the young and hip, but she does keep it timeless and perennially perfect, making her more of a pinup for the sophisticated and chic. This could be in part due to the fact that she dresses beautifully for her body, which is the perfect ‘coat-hanger’ of strong shoulders and long legs.

Her favourite designers include Vera Wang and Michael Kors for the more conservative approach, and Giambattista Valli and Prabal Gurung for those moments that call for something more gob-smackingly gorgeous.
“I would describe my style as classic and simple,” she has said, remarking that she doesn’t like things that are too detailed or fussy. “I usually go for neutral shades and pieces which stand the test of time. That way, you can’t have a disaster.” At least not yet!
