Today, we take a look at Sandra Bullock’s generous donation to Japan and how other celebrities have helped the cause. We also check out Helena Christensen’s venture with Specsavers and Drew Barrymore’s new movie plans.
Celebrities Dig Deep For Japan
We are all heartbroken by the images and stories from Japan; it is simply tragic. Luckily, when disaster strikes, people have a tendency to pull out all stops and give big to the cause. Sandra Bullock is one of those people setting an excellent example by giving a whopping $1 million to the American Red Cross. The Oscar winner also gave $1 million to the Haiti disaster last January and we’d love to see other celebs following in her footsteps.
Meanwhile, celebs like Katy Perry have been using their social networking sites to encourage their fans to donate and it seems to be working – over $2.6 million in text message donations has been made so far.
If you want to donate to the appeal you can do so on the Australian Red Cross website or the World Vision Australia Japan Disaster Appeal website.
Helena Christensen Leads Search For Spectacle Wearer of The Year
For the second time, Specsavers are celebrating the spectacled among us with a nationwide search to find Australia’s best-framed fashionista.
International supermodel and photographer Helena Christensen will be at the head of the judging panel and will personally photograph the lucky winner in New York.
Of the event Christensen said, “I’m really excited to be a part of this years Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year. It’s a great initiative that gives people the chance to have fun with showing how interesting they look in their spectacles,” going on to exclaim, “We’ve always known about geek chic but glasses are now hotter than ever as a style accessory.”
The competition is open to men and women aged 18 and over, who are current specs wearers or wear glasses for fashion purposes. Entries are now open until 18 July.
Drew Barrymore To Direct New Rom-com
We loved Whip It, so we’re super excited to hear the news that Drew Barrymore will once again be putting on the directorial hat. This time, it’s a rom-com the Covergirl ambassador will be directing called How to Be Single.
It is a film adaptation of the book of the same name by Liz Tuccillo which looks at the relationship rollercoaster of relationships in New York spanning ten years. We can’t wait to hear more about the film!
From the sounds of things, it will make for a great movie to see with girlfriends.
