Sandra Sully Opens Up About Bullying
Sandra Sully has opened up about a shocking incident during her ten years at Channel 10. The news anchor told CLEO magazine that she was left ‘very distressed’ by a colleague who was trying to sabotage her career.
The Aussie favourite disclosed, “She wasn’t a fellow presenter but she was a colleague who tormented me or tried to torment me for nearly 10 years.”
She continued, “She used those old tricks of flirting with bosses and using her feminine wiles to present me as demanding ‘talent’ to her superiors and they all fell for it. She was a toxic person. It was about control.”
CLEO editor Sharri Markson said Sully had been reluctant to talk about the issue in the past but decided to share her experiences in hopes of bringing the issue of workplace bullying to the forefront so other women don’t have to suffer in silence.
Fellow news veteran Chris Bath and Sully’s husband, sports presenter Jim Wilson, also took to Twitter to praise the news anchor for her bravery in speaking out.
More and more celebrities have been speaking up about bullying, bringing the serious issue to the forefront. Just last week an incident on Australia’s Next Top Model saw a contestant kicked out for bullying and on Thursday this week Charlotte Dawson, who weathered the torments of serious cyberbulling last year, is set to step out for the launch of the REELuse Film Festival to talk about her personal experience and how she overcame it.
The REELise Film Festival is a mobile phone film project and aims to educate and draw awareness to cyberbullying. Visit www.reelise.org.au for more information.
Ronan Keating’s X Factor Woes
Last night on X Factor Australia the contestants found out who their mentors are and discovered they’d best get their passports in order. Natalie Bassingthwaigthe and the groups are headed to Richard Branson’s Makepeace Island in Queensland, Dannii Minogue and the over 24s are off to New York, Red Foo and the under 24 girls are headed to London, and the under 24 boys are off to London with Ronan Keating.
Given the reveal, the X Factor contestants are sitting pretty this year, but it seems next year they could be in need of a new mentor…
Reportedly, Ronan Keating is missing girlfriend Storm Uechtritz so much that is he considering quitting his Australian X Factor role to spend more time with her. Keating told TV Weekly, “I make massive sacrifices with my career,” and said, “This could be my last year.” For now at least, Keating is all in and ready to compete with his fellow mentors, saying the series, “is going to be war.”
Kim Kardashian vs Katie Couric
Kim Kardashian and talk-show host Katie Couric are in the middle of a showdown! Kardashian has been quiet on social media since the birth of her daughter in July but on Saturday she took to Instagram to use hashtags in an attack against Couric. The reality star posted a picture of the polka-dot nightgown from Barneys which Couric sent with two hashtags “#IHateFakeMediaFriends #MayIHumblySuggestYouNotSendGiftsThenTalkSh*t”
The words were not, as it might seem, because of the ‘K tradition’ comment – Katie sent the gift before the name North was given, but instead are a result of an InTouch Weekly interview with Katie in which she said, “I don’t understand — why are they so famous? I think it’s mostly teenage girls that are interested.”
Since the hashtag attack, Couric apologized to Kim in a statement saying, “I’ve met Kim before, and I think she’s a really sweet person. I was responding to a reporter’s question and explaining how I’m intrigued by the public’s fascination with her family. I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings. The gift is genuine, and I’m happy for Kim and Kanye.”
Kim is yet to comment – stay tuned!
