Scents of style: the latest fragrance releases from our favourite luxury fashion houses

While owning a new season Burberry trench, or the latest coveted Chloe camel high waisted pant may be a tad out of reach for some, the great news is we can still channel the spirit of our favourite high-end luxury brands by splurging on the latest offering from the designer in fragrance form.

This season sees a bumper crop of hot new designer offerings in time for summer and the party season. Indulge in a very 70s Studio 54 flashback with Halston, Gucci and Chloe or try one of the other so hot right now designer fragrances from the likes of Burberry, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs.



As we delve a little deeper into the design philosophies behind our favourite designers, you’re invited to style up your fragrance wardrobe…







HALSTON

As famous for his fluid, elegant and timeless separates as he was for his flamboyant and high-octane lifestyle, Roy Halston’s rise to fame was swift and all-consuming. A prominent fixture of the glittering Studio 54 set, Halston dressed everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Bianca Jagger. Fast forward 30 years later, and the house of Halston is enjoying a second wind following the release of a smash hit new collection at New York Fashion Week in 2008, followed by the re-release of Halston’s iconic fragrances. Spring/Summer 2010 saw Halston reviving the timeless, classic heritage of the house through the art of simple, elegant, silhouettes in soft, ethereal fabrics, and cascading chiffon juxtaposed by fun sports-luxe jumpsuits and flirty mini-dresses (who can forget the opening scene from SATC 2 with SJP in new season Halston).

The fragrances: HALSTON WOMAN & HALSTON MAN

Halston has partnered up with Elizabeth Arden to release a modern interpretation of the iconic and award-winning Halston signature fragrances of the 1970s. Inspired by the casual elegance synonymous with the fashion of the brand HALSTON WOMAN and HALSTON MAN were re-released, each with a fresh new twist.

HALSTON WOMAN: We love this woody ‘floriental’ fragrance designed for the elegant and refined woman who can still pull off full blown glamour when the occasion calls for it. When you need to turn up the ‘X’ factor, Halston Woman is foolproof. From $130 for 50ml EDP.

HALSTON MAN: If you are glossing it up, you need a partner in crime and Halston Man is homage to the timeless, sophisticated masculinity of Halston’s infamous Z-14.

CHLOE

Spring/Summer 2010 saw Chloe staying true to its special brand of fresh, hip and feminine elegance with soft tailored short shorts paired stunning capes in shades of taupe and oatmeal, and floor-length gauzy-chiffon gowns and Autumn Winter has had fashionista’s hearts a flutter with the seriously sexy beige on beige cashmere pant suits. When we saw the ad campaign and behind the scenes video, we instantly wanted to be the Chloe girl. What’s not to love about this brand? We’ll be wearing this day after day and vibing 70s glamour.

The Fragrance: LOVE, CHLOE

Love, Chloe is true to its inspiration- all sparkles and spontaneity with a feminine and floral composition. This delicate powdery scent opens with notes of Orange Blossom blended with Pink Pepper, followed by heart notes of Irus Absolute, Lilac, Hyacinth, Wisteria Blossom and Heliotropine, and rounded off with base notes of Powdery Musk, Talc and Rice. We think its fragrance heaven.

GUCCI

Spring/Summer 2010 showed sophisticated form-fitting black dresses; killer precision cut suites, and plenty of metallics. Further cementing Gucci as a brand of sex and power, the latest fragrance from the House of Gucci is fronted by Evan Rachel Wood and up and comer Chris Evans, who star in a saucy new ad campaign directed by famed offbeat Hollywood director Frank Miller of Sin City fame.

The fragrance: GUCCI GUILTY

Gucci Guilty is a seductive oriental floral scent, created for the sexy, fearless, 21st century girl who knows exactly what she wants, and isn’t afraid to do what it takes to get it. We love it on a third date when you want to turn up the heat. As ever, a Gucci fragrance is just the right balance of super nova hot balanced by an “I’m worth it” confidence.

CHRISTIAN DIOR

Dior‘s 2010 Cruise Collection saw a return to old school glamour with a range of classically elegant silhouettes, pencil skirts, floor-length evening gowns, vintage hats and pattern-matching handbags. Coinciding with the launch of this year’s Cruise Collection is the latest addition to Escales de Dior fragrance collection, Escale aux Marquises.

The Fragrance: ESCALE AUX MARQUISES

Inspired by Polynesia’s most legendary archipelagos, the elegant, exuberant, and mysterious Marquesas Islands, this light, fresh, and woody aromatic fragrance is the perfect crisp, warm weather scent for the classically elegant woman with a refined olfactive palette. Our choice for a sophisticated summer holiday. Think balmy nights in Capri and a mini break at Qualia.

BURBERRY

The Spring/Summer 2010 Burberry collection featured plenty of short hemlines, of-the-moment draped, knotted, and twisted fabrics in feminine pastel and nude hues, and a fresh and modern take on their iconic trench.

The fragrance: BURBERRY THE BEAT FOR WOMEN

Fronted by British model Charlotte Wiggins, and musician Seb Brice, Burberry The Beat for Women is a warm and summery sparkling floral scent for the on-trend, and effortlessly cool woman. We vote this our must have off duty signature scent.

DOLCE & GABBANA

Spring/ Summer 2010 collection took us on a journey through the wild, wild American West, with plenty of faded denim, distressed boyfriend jeans, suede bloomers, lace blouses and studded leather cowboy boots.

The Fragrance: D&G ROSE THE ONE

The epitome of romance and young love, this decadent floral fragrance is a rosy take on the original D&G scent The One. We’ll wear Rose The One to re-live the memory of a steamy summer romance in Europe.

GIORGIO ARMANI

Spring/ Summer 2010 saw Armani take a step away from the slick sophistication he is famous for, to deliver a bright, fun and youthful collection. Keeping all hemlines above the knee, we loved the sea of sequins, fuchsia, crystal embroidery, and taffeta party frocks mixed with casual skorts, loose-fitting pants.

The Fragrance: ACQUA di GIOIA

Taking inspiration from the sophisticated, natural and genuine beauty of nature, Acqua di Gioia is bursting with fresh and lively top notes of crushed Mint and the zest of Italian Limone Primo Fiore Femminello, which is complimented by delicate heart notes of Water Jasmine and rounded off with a sprinkling of Brown Sugar and Labdanum. This scent is the perfect partner to a deep tan (fake of course), bejewelled sandals and a flirty summer dress. We’ll be wearing this at a sexy poolside party this New Year’s Eve.

MARC JACOBS

Spring/Summer 2010 saw the designer refreshingly steer clear of the bleak, black, studded embellishment look of the moment, and instead opting for fresh, feminine and modern elegance. We saw Aladdin pants and upturned-toe platform sandals, military jackets, teamed with long, full skirts and retro silk underwear worn as outerwear. And let’s not forget the bum bags- a further testament to the fact this man can take the most unlikely accessory and give it instant fashion cred.

The Fragrance: LOLA MARC JACOBS VELVET EDITION

To celebrate the first anniversary of the insanely successful original fragrance Lola, Marc Jacobs has released Lola Velvet Edition- the same irresistible warm floral scent, wrapped up in a beautiful limited edition velvet flower topped flacon. This scent represents the true Marc Jacobs girl- exuberant, carefree and effortlessly chic. We have not stopped our love affair with this gorgeous scent since it launched and are loving the hot new packaging.

GIVENCHY

Spring/Summer 2010 saw Givenchy deliver a short but overtly sexy collection, inspired by 1970s eroticism. We spied sheer bras, elegant tuxedos, glam-rock sequined jumpsuits, and eclectic ball gowns with trains of ruffled, dip-dyed tulle.

Carrying on the sexy spontaneity of the collection, Givenchy enlisted the likes of superstar Justin Timberlake and the super sexy Canadian model Noot Seear to front their latest fragrance offerings: Play For Him and the newly released Play For Her.

The fragrance: GIVENCHY PLAY FOR HER

After releasing the hedonistic fragrance for men, Play, comes Givenchy’s warm and woody women’s scent Play for Her, Play’s perfect partner in crime- created for the seductive and charismatic woman with a passion for living life in the fast lane. We’ll be wearing Play for Her on romantic dates and to meet the parents.

HUGO BOSS

Spring/Summer 2010 women’s collection saw a new-age take on the American preppy look and the sign up of It-girl Sienna Miller as the face of their new fragrance Boss Orange.

The fragrance: BOSS ORANGE

In keeping with the modern, free-spirited vibe of the Boss Orange brand, this crisp and feminine fragrance is a perfect daytime scent. We’d wear this to the office and out for cocktails feeling relaxed but still polished.
